Summary:
The successful candidate will take the role in providing legal advice, drafting and reviewing legal documents, managing legal disputes, and overseeing compliance systems. This role requires closely working with business teams to ensure legal matters are handled in a timely, efficient, and appropriate manner. This position reports to the Team Leader of the North America Legal Team.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and counsel across a broad range of legal and compliance matters
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts and other legal documents
- Manage disputes, pre-litigation matters, with coordination with external counsel
- Advise on regulatory matters including environmental, safety, and other compliance
- Oversee, maintain, and enhance the company’s compliance programs and frameworks
- Provide general legal support across operational matters, including employment-related issues, EHS matters, immigration, workers’ compensation coordination, logistics, utilities, and real estate matters
- Prepare for and support audits and investigations by developing strategies, maintaining documentation, and implementing procedures
- Develop and deliver legal and compliance training across the organization
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate or equivalent law degree from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in the state of Michigan preferred but not required
- Comprehensive knowledge of corporate law and procedures
- Experience in corporate compliance, labor and employment matters, and safety & environmental issues are preferred
- Demonstrate excellent business and legal judgment, with a strong ability to assess risk and set priorities based on risk evaluation and business needs
- Excellent analytical, communication, research, writing, and negotiation skills
- High degree of professionalism and integrity, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of legal experience
- Experience at a law firm and/or a global in-house legal team preferred
