Position Overview
The Field Service Technician (FST) is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and related equipment at remote sites, under the supervision of a Field Service Engineer. Additional responsibilities include supporting field service engineers and the site manager with maintenance tasks and general site upkeep. The FST may occasionally travel to other regional sites to assist with maintenance activities. This is a hands-on role that requires working outdoors.
Primary Responsibilities
The ideal candidate should have a basic understanding of industrial electrical systems and components. They must also be proficient in documenting maintenance activities, quality issues, and deficiencies using digital platforms.
- Perform preventive maintenance on BESS, inverters (PCS), and fire suppression systems (FSS).
- Identify and report quality issues.
- Troubleshoot systems and replace components as needed.
- Operate heavy equipment (e.g., telehandler, lifting jigs) and perform heavy lifting.
- Work safely on ladders and elevated platforms.
- Conduct routine maintenance, including software/firmware updates and data collection.
- Interface with computer systems and HMI on BESS.
- Document all work, including photographs, in digital work order systems.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and seek guidance when unfamiliar with tasks or lacking confidence in safe execution.
- Collaborate respectfully in a team environment and demonstrate willingness to learn new technologies.
Key Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic mechanical and electrical aptitude.
- Ability to follow documented work instructions.
- Basic electrical fundamentals and use of test equipment, e.g. voltmeters, insulation testers, amperage clamps and meters.
- Basic computer skills – Working proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office software such as Excel, Power Point, Word, and cloud file-sharing platforms.
- Good communication skills; verbal and written.
Desired (not required)
- Renewable industry experience.
- BESS and Inverter PCS repair experience. (SMA PCS experience a plus).
- Knowledge or understanding of generation, transmission and distribution in electrical grid systems.
Education, Experience, Work Environment
- High School Diploma or GED (minimum requirement).
- Technical or Vocational Training in electrical, mechanical, or power generation systems (preferred).
- Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (optional but advantageous).
- Experience performing preventive maintenance on industrial equipment or similar equipment.
- Experience with installation of energy storage systems, renewable energy products, and power systems to electric utilities or project developers (preferred).
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift/carry material is required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing/able to drive to remote site locations.

- OSHA 10 or 30 Certification
- NFPA 70E
- Electrical or Mechanical Maintenance Certification
- Manufacturer-specific training for power generation equipment
