Lead a dealership's pre-owned vehicle department by overseeing inventory acquisition, reconditioning, pricing, and sales.
Responsible for driving profitability, setting sales goals, appraising trades, and managing sales staff performance.
Key tasks include service drive vehicle acquisitions, attending auctions in person and online, growing used car department profitability, ensuring brisk used vehicle turn and minimizing units aging. A dedication to high customer satisfaction is crucial.
Core Responsibilities
- Inventory Management: Purchase quality, low-mileage vehicles through auctions, trade-ins, and online sources, ensuring a diverse inventory.
- Appraisals & Pricing: Appraise used vehicles, determine reconditioning requirements, and set competitive prices to maximize profit and velocity.
- Sales Leadership: Lead, train, and motivate the used car sales team to meet or exceed monthly sales goals.
- Operations & Marketing: Oversee vehicle merchandising, online advertising, and ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations.
- Customer Service: Ensure high customer satisfaction (CSI) scores and manage customer retention.
Job Requirements
- Experience: Typically 2 years of automotive sales experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or management role.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of used vehicle market trends, valuations, and appraisal techniques.
- Licensing: Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Tools: Proficiency with Vin Solutions CRM systems and VAuto inventory management software and DealerTrack DMS.
Common Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong negotiating skills for purchasing and wholesale activities.
