The incumbent serves as a Motor Vehicle Operator (MVO) in Nutrition and Food Service. S/he works at a two-divisional teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Kentucky Medical Center at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center. Lexington, KY. Incumbent will rotate between both of the locations for the two divisions (Cooper Drive Division and Leestown Road Division).

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

Driver's License Requirement:

Must possess avalid state issued driver's license to operate a motor vehicle.

(Please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package. You will be required to show your valid driver's license at the time of your interview.)

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Work requires constant lifting and moving heavy objects from moderate (45 pounds) to heavy (50 pounds); bending and stooping; constant walking and standing; pushing food conveyors, carts and other equipment that may weigh up to 600 pounds. Work is subject to pressure in completing assignments in accordance with a close time schedule. May be required to operate portable pallet jack, and lift portable docks and operate battery-powered tuggers used to pull food carts. In-charge of operating motor vehicle weighing up to 23,999 pounds and sitting for periods of time.

Responsibilities:

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Transports inpatient food trays to both Cooper Drive and Leestown Road locations.
  • Maintains necessary records such as the MVO Daily Log sheet indicating times spent in delivery runs, problems encountered, notations regarding fuel and fluid levels on the truck, and data to help in problem solving.
  • Reports any mechanical problems with the vehicle to the supervisor immediately and for performing daily maintenance checks of the vehicles.
  • Checks fluid levels and tire pressure daily at the start of each shift.
  • Maintains the proper sanitation level for the 1-1/2 ton truck, and clean the truck on a daily basis using appropriate cleaning agents.
  • Cleans the dock area.
  • Pick-ups and delivery of Nutrition and Food Service mail between Cooper Drive and Leestown divisions on each trip.
  • Moves equipment and supplies as needed..
  • Works the tray-line assembly line as scheduled.
  • Works in the production/ingredient control area as scheduled, performing simple food assembly tasks or receiving/issuing supplies.
  • Delivers bulk nourishments/tube feeding/early and late trays, and completes inventory on CLC units.
  • Works in the dish room at specified times scraping trays, loading dirty dishes on the conveyor, and/or unloading clean dishes.
  • May be assigned to acting supervisor.
  • Secures the food carts and protecting the equipment through correct handling.
  • Assures that any items ordered by Cooper Drive from the Ingredient Control Unit are sent in the amounts specified.
  • Responds to Aladdin food cart alarms and reports to Food Service supervisor if corrective action is necessary
  • Operates gross vehicle (12,500 - 23,999 pounds or 21,000 - 25,700 pounds) on city streets in a metro area.
  • Assuring that food carts are dispatched prior to and following each meal are loaded and unloaded properly using automatic dock levelers and/or the metal portable docks.
  • Transports inpatient food trays to both Cooper Drive and Leestown Road locations.
  • Moves food carts from refrigerators at Leestown to the truck for dispatch to Cooper Drive.
  • Other duties as may be assigned

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:00am-2:30pm and 11:00am-7:30pm. Alternating weekends, shift rotation and holidays as scheduled.
