Position Title:        Human Resources Specialist

 

FLSA:                     Exempt: Non-Union

 

Reports to:            Director of Human Resources

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  12 month position. 40 hours per week.  Salary Schedule and benefits according to non-bargained staff agreements.   

 

Start Date:  Immediate Start Date

 

Salary Range: $72,000 - $82,000

 

Evaluated by: Director of Human Resources 

 

The Lexington Public Schools Human Resources Department serves 10 schools and the Central Administration Building and approximately 1,700 full-time, part-time and temporary employees.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Perform extensive customer service in person, via telephone and email
  • Coordinate and process athletic, academic, and other employee stipend assignments, ensuring accurate documentation and payroll processing.
  • Administer Human Resources support for Lexington Community Education (LCE), Extended School Year (ESY), summer programs, and student internship placements.
  • Coordinate New Employee Orientation (NEO), including scheduling, communication, onboarding documentation, and new hire support.
  • Review and process graduate course and tuition reimbursement requests in accordance with district policies and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Manage administrative aspects of the educator induction program, including participant tracking, professional learning requirements, contracts, purchase orders, stipend processing, and completion notifications.
  • Coordinate mentor assignments and maintain records related to mentor professional learning, stipends, and program participation.
  • Assist with employee medical accommodation requests by maintaining documentation, tracking requests, and coordinating communication with relevant stakeholders.
  • Administer unemployment claim documentation and respond to requests from state agencies regarding former employees.
  • Coordinate workers' compensation claims, maintain related records, and serve as a liaison between employees, administrators, and insurance providers.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide administrative support for special Human Resources programs and initiatives as assigned.
  • Performs a variety of special projects
  • Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required, directed, or as the situation dictates.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

 

Bachelor’s degree and three to five years of increasingly responsible experience are highly preferred.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Knowledge of:

  • Office procedures, methods, and computer equipment.
  • Principles and procedures of confidential record keeping.
  • Business letter writing and basic report preparation techniques.
  • Effective customer service practices.
  • Absence Management and MUNIS preferred

 

Ability to:

  • Perform administrative support services and basic personnel activities.
  • Operate computer and various software necessary for performing assigned duties.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports and correspondence.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Pay attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Use good judgment and personal initiative in the performance of duties.
  • Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, and maintain effective work relationships.
  • Initiative, tact, discretion, and sound judgment. Independent decision-maker who knows when to move ahead and when to loop others in. Unwavering commitment to confidentiality.
  • Ability to work collegially and cooperatively with all  constituencies within the school community is essential. Willingness and ability to help other co-workers is a must. Ability to manage stressful situations if they arise. Independent worker and a strong team player - a willingness and ability to collaborate with others is a must.
