POSITION TITLE: 1.0 FTE K-12 PREVENTION SPECIALIST (WELLNESS)


FLSA:
Exempt


REPORTS TO:
K-12 Physical Education, Health and Wellness Program Leaders


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
184 day work year. Benefits and salary in accordance with the LEA Unit A collective bargaining agreement.


2023 - 2024 school year.
FY22 rates, will increase upon finalized negotiations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive drug prevention K-12 program
  • Train students, faculty, parents and community members in drug prevention strategies
  • Provide community awareness education about health related issues
  • Facilitate School/Community group meetings and presentations
  • Advise the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Club
  • Adhere to laws, policies, procedures and ethical standards of the field and contribute to a positive and safe school culture
  • Support diversity, equity and inclusion for all students and families
  • Consult and collaborate with administrators, teachers, staff, families and community-based providers in support of students’ needs
  • Provide group and/or individual counseling and support for students as needed
  • Make home visits, as needed
  • Participate in reentry for mental health and discipline/diversion/restorative justice
  • Participate in the Physical Education, Health and Wellness program in consultation with the K-12 Physical Education, Health and Wellness Program Leaders and the K-12 Prevention Specialist
  • Oversee the K-12 Diversion Program (Harassment, Title IX, Substance Use Disorders)
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:


Advanced degree in health education, social work or related field. Dual certification preferred but not required; Demonstrated experience with youth prevention programs and interventions; Experience working with adolescents in school or community settings; Knowledge of and experience with research-based prevention programs; Effective communication skills including public speaking, writing and technology literate; Experience working with parents including facilitating discussions and leading youth-adult dialogues; Ability to develop and prepare prevention messages addressing wellness issues including substance abuse prevention that target a variety of audiences; Organizational skills including facilitating meetings,preparing documents and reports and the ability to work independently.
