Lexington Medical Center Extended Care is the largest extended care facility in North and South Carolina. Our team of dedicated health care professionals care for residents in a facility fully equipped to meet their physical needs, including a state-of-the-art, 10,000-quare-foot rehabilitation center to provide physical, occupational, speech and respiratory therapy for a variety of conditions, illnesses and injuries.
Job Summary
The primary purpose of your job position is to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities of the facility during your tour of duty. Such supervision must be in accordance with current state, federal, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be required by the Executive Director of Nursing Services, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. As the Nursing Supervisor you will report directly to the Executive Director of Nursing.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum Education: Associates Degree
- Minimum Years of Experience: 3 years of supervisory experience

- Required Certifications/Licensure: Registered Nurse in SC
Essential Functions
- Participate in the developing, maintaining, and update of our written policies and procedures that govern the day to day functions of the Nursing Services Department.
- Ensure that the Nursing Services Procedures Manual is followed by Nursing Personnel, and that it reflects the day to day nursing care procedures used by this facility.
- Ensure that all nursing personnel are following their respective job descriptions.
- Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charts, etc..., as necessary.
- Participate in the development, maintenance and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program for the Nursing Services Department.
- Participate in surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Executive Director as necessary/required, concerning the operation of the Nursing Services Department.
- Transfer and discharge residents as required.
- Complete accident/incident reports as necessary.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure that a sufficient number of licensed nurses are available for your tour of duty to ensure that quality care is maintained.
- Ensure that a sufficient number of nursing assistants are available for your tour of duty to ensure that routine nursing care is provided to meet the daily nursing care needs of each resident.
- Make daily rounds of the facility to ensure that all nursing service personnel. Make appropriate reports to the Executive Director as required or as may be necessary.
- Ensure that disciplinary action is administered fairly and without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, age, sex, religion, handicap or marital status.
- Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-department personnel, as well as other departments in the facility to assure that nursing services and activities can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
- Assure that department personnel, residents, and visitors follow the departments established policies and procedures at all times, including dress code.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis; as well as calm the environment throughout the shift.
- Review nurses notes to ensure that they are informative and descriptive of the nursing care being provided and that they reflect the resident’s response to the care.
- Provide direct nursing care as necessary, to include assuming shift duties of a unit or wing.
- Keep the Executive Director informed of the status of resident and other related matters through written/oral reports.
- Meet with residents and/or family members as necessary. Report problem areas to the Executive Director.
- Notify the resident’s attending physician and next-of-kin when there is a change in the resident’s condition.
- Call funeral homes when requested by family.
- Authorize the use of restraints when necessary and in accordance with our facility’s policies and procedures.
- Make independent decisions concerning nursing care.
- Supervise LPN’s, start of IV’s, obtain sputum, urine and other lab tests as ordered or direct staff to do so.
- Take TPR’s blood pressures, etc..., as necessary.
- Assist the Staff Nurse in monitoring seriously ill residents.
- Inform family members of the death of resident as necessary.
- Performs all other duties as assigned
