What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Assistant position at Lexington Hospital for Cats?

We need to hire a full-time or part-time veterinary assistant, and welcome candidates who are employed elsewhere and are interested in working a few more hours each week. We will work around your schedule based on the needs of our practice.
What you will do:
Take histories from clients, check patients into exam rooms, assist the veterinarian during exams, prepare prescriptions to go home, prepare vaccinations and injections to be given, enter charges into invoices, and check clients out in the exam rooms.
Assist clients through our kitty valet service and bring patients into the hospital and take them back to their owner's car once the visit is over.
Use Cat Friendly techniques to make each patient's visit as positive and safe as possible.
Operate and maintain the Idexx in house lab system and perform other diagnostic testing.
Provide nursing care and general animal care to our hospitalized patients.
Take radiographs with digital general radiography system.
Maintain accurate and complete patient records.
Help to maintain the hospital in a clean, healthy, safe, and functional condition.
Contribute to our constant improvement, always having fun.
You will need to learn our protocols and procedures. Some of your training will be self-taught and a lot of your training will be situational. We will adjust duties and expectations based on your level of education, training, and experience.
Our focus is on internal medicine, dentistry, ear disease, behavior, dermatology, senior care, and wellness. We see complicated cases and cats with multiple co-morbidities. Assistants make excellent care possible.
Wages: $15-18/hour based on experience and education. Uniforms are provided.
Hours of operation: Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 6 pm and Saturday 8:30 am to noon. All employees share animal care duties on weekends and holidays.
