Lexington History Museums seeks a qualified candidate for Assistant Manager of Visitor Services. Lexington History Museums is an independent non-profit organization that serves as a premier interpreter of the events of April 19, 1775, and the faithful steward of all the town’s history through time. LHM operates four historic sites—Buckman Tavern, Munroe Tavern, the Hancock-Clarke House, and the Old Belfry—where significant events of the Revolutionary War unfolded, as well as the Lexington History Museum at the Lexington Depot. An extensive collection from throughout three hundred years of Lexington history includes documents, artwork, furniture, and textiles, which are available to researchers at the Archives & Research Center. Special programs throughout the year include lectures, performances, walking tours, social events, and educational programs for adults and children.
The part-time Assistant Manager of Visitor Services is responsible for coordinating group tour bookings, managing related communications and invoicing, and supporting the Director of Visitor Services in the day-to-day operations of the department. The Assistant Manager reports to and works at the direction of the Director of Visitor Services. The primary role of the Assistant Manager of Visitor Services is to support visitor services operations, assist with staff and volunteer training on operational systems, and help ensure smooth daily coordination of front-line activities.

Overall responsibilities of the Assistant Manager of Visitor Services include:
- Responsible for group tour bookings, invoicing and all communications for group tours.
- Support the Director of Visitor Services
- Assist the Director of Visitor Services in training new staff and volunteer greeters on the Point of Sales system and other operational tasks.
- When the Director of Visitor Services is away, the Assistant Manager for Visitor Services will be responsible for writing and distributing the Daily Sheets and related supplies, helping to fill schedule holes and tallying total hours for payroll.
- Assist with other aspects of the organization at times during the year when demand for visitor services responsibilities is otherwise being met
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
Supervisory Responsibility: When the Director of Visitor Services is unavailable, the Assistant Manager of Visitor Services will be responsible for supervising frontline staff.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma required; relevant coursework from an accredited college or university strongly preferred
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a visitor-facing role at a comparable organization (e.g., hospitality, retail, attractions, or cultural organizations)
- Knowledge of and experience with admissions, point of sale, and online ticketing systems
- Knowledge of and experience with information technology and business software applications; must be highly proficient using Microsoft Office Suite or Google Suite
- A passion for people, museums, and American history
- Ability to identify and effectively resolve visitor issues in the moment; strong decision-making skills necessary
- Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and special events as necessary
- Effective and persuasive communications skills; ability to write and speak clearly.
- Must be able to stand and move around public areas of the workplace for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to physically lift and transport items not to exceed 35 pounds in weight.
