Job Summary

The Ultrasound Specialist is responsible for the independent operation of the ultrasound equipment and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic findings to the provider along with assisting the provider with ultrasound guidance procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: Completion of Ultrasound School

Minimum Years of Experience: 1 Year of successful work experience in ultrasound of the abdomen/Pelvis; transabdominal and transvaginal approach.

Substitutable Education & Experience (Optional): 1 Year of successful work experience in ultrasound of the abdomen/pelvis; transabdominal and transvaginal approach can be substituted for 6 months of experience in ultrasound of abdomen/pelvis; transabdominal and transvaginal approach as a student in a physician practice or related medical setting.

Required Certifications/Licensure: Registered by ARDMS;

Current CPR certification

Required Training: None

Essential Functions

  • Demonstrate competence to provide developmentally appropriate care/treatment for the following patient population:
    • Adolescent - 13 years to 17 years
    • Adult - 18 years to 65 years
    • Geriatric - over 65 years
  • Performs all requested sonographic examinations as ordered by the attending physician.
  • Organizes daily work schedule and performs related duties as required to ensure efficient and effective service to patients.
  • Assumes responsibility for the safety and well-being of all patients in the sonographic area.
  • Coordinates with other staff to assure appropriate patient care is provided.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Addresses problems of patient care as they arise and makes decisions to appropriately resolve the issue at hand.
  • Reviews images, inputs findings into electronic health records system and sends to physician for evaluation.
  • Monitors equipment and reports equipment failure to the appropriate person.
  • Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area.
  • Determines ultrasound supply needs and forwards orders to purchasing.
  • Performs all other work related duties as assigned.
