Role Description The Neurosurgery Physician Assistant is a full-time, on-site position based in Lexington, KY. This role supports neurosurgeons in outpatient settings, including assisting in surgical procedures, pre- and post-operative patient managements. Responsibilities include conducting thorough patient assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, developing and implementing treatment plans under physician supervision, and providing education to patients and families about neurosurgical conditions and procedures. The Physician Assistant will document visits and procedures, coordinate care with nursing and allied health teams, and participate in follow-up visits and continuity-of-care activities to ensure high-quality outcomes. Collaboration with physicians and staff to improve clinical workflows, safety, and efficiency is an important part of the day-to-day work.


Qualifications

  • Current Physician Assistant (PA) licensure in the state of Kentucky, graduation from an accredited PA program, and NCCPA certification.
  • Experience in neurosurgery, neurology, or a related surgical specialty, with strong skills in patient assessment, diagnostic evaluation, and perioperative care.
  • Proficiency in performing common neurosurgical-related procedures within scope of practice, such as wound care, suture removal, and post-operative evaluations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, communicating effectively with physicians, nurses, therapists, and support staff.
  • Strong clinical documentation skills and comfort using electronic health record (EHR) systems for charting, ordering tests, and managing patient information.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care, including clear patient and family education, cultural sensitivity, and advocacy for patient safety.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities to handle a high-volume clinical environment and prioritize urgent patient needs.
  • Willingness to participate in quality improvement initiatives, adhere to evidence-based guidelines, and maintain continuing education in neurosurgery and advanced practice.
