Lexington Christian Academy, Lexington MA is now accepting application for the position of Counseling Intern. The Counseling Intern is a member of the Office of Student Success and Wellness, supporting the social-emotional well-being and success of students in Grades 6-12 while completing graduate-level training requirements. Under the supervision of the Dean of Student Success and Wellness, the Counseling Intern supports students experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health concerns through individual and group counseling, consultation, prevention programming, and crisis response activities. Working collaboratively with Academic Advisors, Learning Support Program Specialists, faculty, families, and administrators, the Counseling Intern contributes to a comprehensive student support system that promotes student well-being, resilience, self-advocacy, and overall success. 


RESPONSIBILITIES

Counseling Support  

  • Provide supervised individual and group counseling support to students experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, or personal challenges

  • Conduct regular check-ins with at-risk students and provide appropriate follow-up support

  • Establish clear boundaries of scope of practice and provide timely, warm referrals to outside mental health professionals when appropriate

  • Assist students in developing self-awareness, emotional regulation, resilience, coping skills, and self-advocacy

  • Conduct student wellness screenings, needs assessments, and intake activities as appropriate and under supervision

  • Participate in crisis response activities, risk assessments, safety planning, and follow-up support under the supervision of the Dean of Student Success and Wellness


 Student & Family Support 

  • Foster a welcoming, confidential, and student-centered counseling environment that promotes student well-being and growth

  • Collaborate with Academic Advisors, Learning Support Program Specialists, faculty, and administrators to support students experiencing social-emotional, behavioral, attendance, or engagement concerns

  • Attend student success team meetings and collaborate with Learning Support Staff regarding students with IEPs, 504 Plans, accommodation plans, and identified support needs

  • Assist with parent consultations, resource sharing, and student support planning under supervision


Community & Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain a structured calendar of counseling appointments, student meetings, supervision sessions, and internship activities 

  • Maintain accurate records and case notes in SNAP Health, ensuring data confidentiality in compliance with FERPA, school policies, and professional standards

  • Participate actively in supervision, case consultation, professional development, and Student Success Team meetings

  • Model Christ-like character, compassion, and integrity in all professional relationships

  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned that support internship learning objectives and the mission of the Office of Student Success and Wellness


QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience 

  • Current enrollment in a Master’s degree program in Counseling, Mental Health, or a related field is required.  

  • Eligibility to complete a practicum or internship placement through an accredited graduate program is required.

This is a part-time, unpaid position on the 10-month, academic work cycle. 


SALARY & BENEFITS

This position is an unpaid internship and intended for academic credit or supervised field experience.
