Lexicon provides specialized language, cultural, military support services, and military tactics training to the Department of Defense (DoD), the full spectrum of US Armed Forces and government agencies. We have provided skilled translator/interpreters for military combat operations overseas in multiple countries and various languages.
Role Player / Cultural Expert
Location: Harpers Ferry, WV (On-site)
Schedule: Intermittent / As-Needed (Multiple sessions per year)
Position Overview
Lexicon Consulting, Inc. is seeking professional Role Players / Cultural Experts to support the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Detecting Deception and Eliciting Response (DDER) training program at the Advanced Training Center (ATC) in Harpers Ferry, WV.
Role players support scenario-based interviewing exercises designed to train federal law enforcement personnel in rapport-based, non-coercive interviewing techniques. This is a highly interactive, professional training environment requiring strong improvisation skills, cultural fluency, and the ability to provide constructive feedback to students.
Key Responsibilities
- Portray culturally authentic characters during live, unscripted interview scenarios
- Improvise responses based on character background, motivations, and scenario guidance
- Accurately represent cultural norms, behaviors, and communication styles
- Participate in multiple interview rotations per day (approximately 50 minutes per scenario)
- Provide verbal feedback to instructors and students on rapport-building effectiveness
- Debrief students on cultural dynamics, communication barriers, and interviewing techniques
- Maintain professionalism in a federal training environment at all times
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident (required for federal access)
- 5 years of experience as a Role Player
- Strong knowledge of one or more of the following cultural regions:
- Latin America
- South Asia
- East Asia
- Middle East
- Ability to speak a foreign language associated with your cultural background at a conversational to professional level
- Ability to improvise and stay in character without a scripted dialogue
- Comfortable providing verbal feedback to adult learners
- Availability to work full training days (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM) on Days 2 and 3 of each 3-day course
- Willingness to complete a CBP background investigation (Public Trust)
