Job Description
Job Title: DELIVERY VAN DRIVER/CUSTODIAN
Reports To: School Food Services Director/Maintenance Director
SUMMARY: Drives District delivery van to deliver school mail, freight, and hot lunch to all schools on a set schedule. As custodian is responsible for the uninterrupted and comfortable operation of the assigned school facility, ensuring that the standards of cleanliness, sanitation, safety and security are met.
ESSENTIAL DELIVERY DRIVER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
- Sorts mail into bins for delivery to all school locations.
- Helps unload incoming large deliveries of paper, etc.
- Loads carriers and delivers all hot lunch from Central Kitchen to each school and then loads and returns all carriers and dishes from each school to Central Kitchen on a coordinated schedule.
- Assists with moving freight to storerooms, dating deliveries, and using a first in, first out (FIFO) management.
- Delivers and picks up all interschool mail, freight, and other supplies; delivers daily lunch receipts to Central Office; and delivers all outgoing packages to appropriate shipping centers.
- Adheres to set schedules and is punctual.
- Maintains a safe driving record.
- Maintains work area and assigned equipment in a neat orderly fashion.
- Obeys all traffic laws and maintains safe driving record.
- Complies with local traffic regulations. Reports delays or accidents.
- Works cooperatively with staff, supervisors, students, parents and the public.
ESSENTIAL CUSTODIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
Performs scheduled housekeeping duties as required.
- Assumes specific housekeeping duties such as:
Sweeping and/or vacuuming floors in classrooms, offices, hallways, etc.
Dusting of furniture, walls, horizontal surfaces, etc.
Cleaning chalkboards
Trash disposal
Cleaning and sanitation of restrooms
Cleaning glass
- Carries out other duties such as:
Snow removal
Grounds maintenance
Building security
Raising and lowering flags
Maintain supplies inventory
- Operates the buildings mechanical and electrical systems as required.
- Maintains a safe building. This includes cooperating with inspecting agencies, the use of good safety practices, and maintenance of housekeeping equipment.
- Makes minor repairs to buildings and housekeeping equipment within his or her resources; and as housekeeping duties allow.
- Required to maintain physical condition to be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Reports damage and/or maintenance needs to supervisor.
- Assists in setup of school sponsored events as well as events when facility is rented by the public.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with the administration, staff, students, and the public.
The above performance responsibilities are not all-inclusive and may be altered or added to by the School Food Services Director and/or Business Manager.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - Must have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the district.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems in a timely manner. Ability to understand the overall scope of the work to be performed and master the details of the individual tasks; understand basic rules and regulations involved with work to be performed; and follow basic rules and regulations involved with the scope of work to be performed.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS - Must maintain a valid Montana Driver’s License and safe driving record.

Employees of Lewistown Public Schools must submit to a fingerprint criminal background check. Any appointment will be contingent upon the results of the criminal background report received from the Department of Justice, which must be acceptable to the Board of Trustees, in its sole discretion.
