Summary

The LPS K-5 certified Gifted and Talented teacher provides direct services to identified students in grades 3-5 and consult K-2 classrooms as needs arise.

Salary: $45,518.26 - $85,857.57 (SY26/27)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develops and implements G/T programming for grades 3-5 students identified as gifted in the language arts and math. giving G/T students opportunities to explore particular interests through group projects and independent study.
  • Collaborates with Grade 6-8 G/T teacher and OTL on initial identification process, including annual coordination of CogAT testing and review of multiple points of identification data as outlined in the Gifted and Talented Program Handbook.
  • Acts as a resource to K-5 teachers across Lewiston Public Schools on strategies and resources aligned to the articulated core curriculum in order to meet the needs of the gifted and talented students in the general education setting
  • Attend and participate in local and state G/T opportunities acting as a G/T information liaison.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises Classroom and Students while at the program site. The Grades 3-5 Gifted and Talented program is housed in Connors Elementary School. Students are transported to Connors one or more days each week to receive their services with grade-level peers.

Education And Experience

  • Required: Minimum Educational Attainment of a Bachelors' Degree from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Required: Current Maine 020 Certification (or equivalent) with Gifted and Talented endorsement
  • Preferred: Experience planning and delivering instruction for advanced learners

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS And ABILITIES

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read music or handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will hear conversations in a quiet and noisy environment and have the ability to tell where a sound is coming from.
