Qualifications
•Licensure: Current Occupational Therapist license and eligibility to obtain a Pupil Service Staff certificate endorsed as an Occupational Therapist.
Primary Responsibility To: Director of Special Services
Job Goal:
The Occupational Therapist (OT) leads the process in development, implementation and coordination of the occupational therapy program. OTs provide quality school-based occupation therapy services including assessment, evaluation, intervention, treatment, IEP planning and implementation, discharge planning, related documentation, and facilitate communication between staff, parents and related service providers.
Essential Responsibilities
A.Instructional Responsibilities
1.Provide early screening services in an effort to identify entering and new to the District students with motor, adaptive, or sensory processing disorders.
2.Assess motor, adaptive, or sensory processing skills and make specific recommendations.
3.Develop, carry out, and document progress toward OT IEP goals; support classroom goals; and use appropriate equipment and materials.
4.Follow established procedures for evaluation, placement, and reappraisal of students in need of special education or related services.
5.Provide customized intervention programs to improve students’ ability to perform daily activities.
6.Make adaptive equipment recommendations and provide training in using them.
B.Management Responsibilities
1.Maintain a record-keeping system which will document individual student progress toward IEP goals.
2.Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulations.
3.Manage efficiently those requests to utilize classroom personnel time when there are expectations for support of OT goals within the classroom.
4.Complete Medicaid billing and follow-up on issues as needed.
5.Evaluate existing programs and make recommendations for improvement.
6.Assume responsibility for the preparation and timely submission of all required reports, and for timely input into reports prepared by others.
C.Communication Responsibilities
1. Present information clearly in both verbal and written form.
2.Confer with colleagues, administrators, and/or parents.
3.Communicate with classroom personnel to determine student needs, set-up appropriate classroom programs to support OT goals, and train classroom staff to safety and effectively carry out daily programs.
4.Work with other agency personnel in the establishment and support of an effective therapy program.
5.Participate in the group decision-making process.
6.Be professional and confidential with student records.
D. Professional Responsibilities
