Description

Lewiston Housing is recruiting for a maintenance technician who will complete work orders in rental housing managed by Lewiston Housing. The ideal candidate must be well organized, be able to adapt to different home environments and provide excellent customer service.

Duties and Job Responsibilities

  • Performs general repairs across multiple trades, including plumbing, electrical, heating, carpentry, painting, and mechanical systems, as assigned.
  • Completes minor plumbing work such as replacing faucet washers, stems, and seats, as well as repairing toilets by changing tank bulbs, overflow tubes, and guide wires.
  • Handles minor electrical tasks including resetting circuit breakers, replacing switch and outlet covers, and changing light bulbs, globes, and similar fixtures.
  • Conducts routine building and grounds maintenance and repairs using a variety of hand tools and equipment, including wrenches, pipe cutters, drain augers, glass cutters, shovels, rakes, lawnmowers, snowblowers, caulking guns, and trowels.
  • Assists with apartment/unit turnovers, including patching, painting, cleaning, and minor repairs to prepare units for new occupants.
  • Helps move or assemble furniture, equipment, or supplies as needed.
  • Maintains safe and accessible walkways by clearing snow and ice from buildings and grounds with shovels and snowblowers.
  • Responds to maintenance requests from residents and staff with professionalism and timeliness.
  • Monitors inventory of tools and supplies, notifying Team Lead when reordering is needed.
  • Collaborates with other maintenance staff to complete larger projects.
  • Participates in staff meetings and training sessions to stay current on procedures and safety practices.
  • Provides courteous communication to residents when entering units or completing work.
  • Accurately documents completed work using the mobile work order system (Yardi).
  • Participates in an on-call rotation to provide timely response to after-hours maintenance and emergency needs.

Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent educational experience preferred
  • 2 years experience in building maintenance repair or related field preferred, but we are also willing to provide on-the-job training to those who are interested and have an inclination toward the maintenance field
  • 2 years experience in carpentry, plumbing or electrical repair work preferred, but we are also willing to provide on-the-job training to those who are interested and have an inclination toward the maintenance field
  • Working knowledge of basic plumbing, electricity, heating, carpentry, painting and mechanical equipment, but we are also willing to provide on-the-job training to those who are interested and have an inclination toward the maintenance field
  • Working knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures
  • Maine driver's license unrestricted except for corrective lenses
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all assignments as mandated
  • Ability to work harmoniously with other agency personnel
  • Ability to relate to and interact with elderly/disabled and family residents in low and moderate-income housing settings
  • Ability to be flexible and perform work under time pressure

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.89 - $22.78 per hour
