Job Description Summary
The Assistant Director, Disability Support Services, reporting to the Director of Career Services & Disability Support Services, works in partnership with the Colleges, faculty and staff to meet the unique and evolving needs of students. The Assistant Director uses strategic thinking and planning skills to design and implement policies and processes that advance accessibility, foster student development and build faculty relationships. This role ensures operational effectiveness within Disability Support Services while contributing to strategic initiatives that foster a culture of accessibility, compliance, and student success.
Responsibilities
Responsible for modeling the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration, and active support of the University’s Mission in Catholic and Lasallian higher education.
- Conduct comprehensive intake appointments, coordinate and oversee various accommodation services, including testing accommodations, note-taking support, and assistive technology and provide ongoing support for students requesting accommodations.
- Evaluate disability documentation and determine reasonable accommodations in accordance with ADA, Section 504, and institutional policies.
- Interpret and apply federal and state regulations to ensure compliance and equitable access and anticipate emerging needs and trends and integrate and share best practices within the department.
- Partner with faculty and campus stakeholders to implement accommodations and proactively address access barriers.
- Collaborate with the Director, Graduate Assistant and Administrative Assistant to ensure the
Accommodated Testing Center is managed with integrity and professionalism, ensuring students
and faculty consistently have a positive experience.
- Increase campus awareness and utilization of Disability Support Services, via various outreach initiatives, including trainings, workshops and campus events for students, faculty, and staff.
- Supervise and train 1-2 graduate assistants, ensuring high-quality service delivery.
- Maintain accurate documentation to support compliance, reporting, and risk management.
- Partner closely with the Wellness Center, Residence Life, Sodexho and other areas to explore,
define and refine reasonable accommodations, related processes and policies to set students up
for success during their time at Lewis and beyond.
- Respond to and de-escalate complex student concerns and situations (often involving
parents/families and faculty members) with good judgement and decision making.
- Work collaboratively with the Success Coach team to support student success.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of professional experience in disability services or a related student support area.
- Demonstrated knowledge of ADA, Section 504, and accommodation processes in higher education.
- Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse campus stakeholders.
- Experience with case management systems and maintaining confidential records preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supervising staff or student employees.
- Familiarity with assistive technology and accessible instructional design.
- Experience delivering training or presentations to diverse audiences.
Essential Duties
Work hours
This is an 11-month position with the schedule to be determined in consultation with the Director. Regular work hours are M-F 8:30-5:00pm, primarily on campus, with occasional early mornings. Some evenings and weekends are also to be expected. Hybrid arrangements are possible, but may change based on institutional needs.
