Summary/objective
The Material Sorter is responsible for sorting, processing, and preparing ferrous and non-ferrous materials for recycling.

- Sort and separate ferrous and non-ferrous materials
- Identify different types of materials
- Operate machinery and equipment to process materials
- Ensure safety procedures are always followed
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Assist with other tasks as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager
Competencies
- Experience working in a salvage yard with ferrous and non-ferrous materials
- Knowledge of different types of materials
- Ability to operate machinery and equipment
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Physical demands
- Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
- Must be able to see details at close range.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions
- Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
