Scope of Position




The Logistics Technician plays a vital role by supporting the daily operations of the Facilities Department by assisting with campus events, office moves, furniture setup, equipment maintenance, and seasonal grounds work to ensure all areas are prepared for events and activities. Working under the direction of the Campus Logistics Supervisor, the Logistics Technician collaborates closely with Maintenance, Campus Operations, and Campus Safety to meet the operational needs of the College in an inclusive and service-oriented manner.

All work is performed in compliance with OSHA rules, regulations, and workplace safety guidelines, reflecting LC’s commitment to health, safety, and equity for all team members and campus visitors.


Key Measurable Expectations (KMEs)

  • Perform a variety of logistics, setup, and facilities support tasks to ensure campus buildings, equipment, and event spaces are safe, functional, and welcoming for all students, staff, and visitors.
  • Assemble, move, and install furniture/equipment for offices, classrooms, and campus events.
  • Set up and break down event layouts according to plans and schedules, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and attention to detail to support successful campus activities.
  • Assist with deliveries, receiving, and distribution of campus supplies, furniture, and materials, promoting efficiency and collaboration across departments.
  • Maintain responsibility for proper storage, care, and usage of all assigned College equipment, tools, and vehicles, ensuring safety and accountability.
  • Support seasonal operations such as snow and ice removal (including truck plowing, shoveling, and spreading salt) to maintain safe and accessible pathways for the campus community.
  • Participate fully in required training (including mechanical, industrial, building, safety, and Illinois Department of Labor programs) as directed by supervisors or Director of Campus Operations to ensure safe, effective, and inclusive workplace practices.
  • Maintain assigned tools, equipment, and vehicles in clean, safe working condition, and store them securely.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team on general campus upkeep, preventative maintenance tasks, and special projects as assigned.
  • Support the Maintenance Technician for Campus Safety & Logistics by assisting with campus keys, keycard systems, doors, locks, fixtures, and furnishings as needed, ensuring accessibility and security across campus.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to exercise judgement, decisiveness, and creativity required in situations involving the repair and maintenance of equipment and machinery.
  • Valid Drivers’ License and insurance.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft word, email applications, and basic computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and written with fellow Team members, coworkers, faculty, students, staff, contractors, businesses, vendors, and the general public in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Demonstrate ability in problem solving.
  • To work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to work any and all assigned shifts.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities related to logistics and maintenance work, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and working in various positions for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely operate material-handling equipment, vehicles, and power or hand tools as required for assigned duties.
  • Essential functions of the position involve working both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in facilities operations, logistics, or event setup in an educational or institutional environment.
  • Experience operating light maintenance or grounds equipment such as utility vehicles, lifts, or small engines.
  • Familiarity with safety procedures, OSHA standards, and best practices for material handling and equipment use.
  • Ability to read and follow floor plans, setup diagrams, or work orders accurately.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills related to furniture, fixtures, or small equipment.

Team Members can expect a competitive salary that is commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity, along with an excellent benefits package. The College’s standard hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (includes a one-hour unpaid lunch). Individual position schedules may vary or be adjusted by the department manager based on operational needs. Alternate schedules are observed during the summer.
