Scope of Position
The Library Assistant plays a vital role in creating an accessible and welcoming learning environment by supporting the operations of Reid Library. This position collaborates with professional librarians to deliver high-quality services that empower students, faculty, and staff. Responsibilities are carried out in alignment with established policies and procedures, ensuring equitable access to resources and fostering academic success for all members of the College community.
Key Measurable Expectations (KMEs)
- Provide welcoming and efficient support at the circulation desk, ensuring all students, faculty, and staff have equitable access to library resources and services.
- Assist in creating and managing reserve materials, supporting diverse learning needs and academic success.
- Facilitate interlibrary loan and reciprocal borrowing requests, expanding access to resources beyond campus and promoting collaboration.
- Support the creation and management of library requisitions, ensuring timely and accurate processing to meet community needs.
- Open and close the library with care and responsibility, maintaining a safe and inclusive environment for all patrons.
- Assist with copy and original cataloging of library materials, ensuring accurate organization and accessibility of resources.
- Demonstrate flexibility by working one evening per week, supporting students and faculty who need extended access to library services.
- Assist with programming and student engagement by planning and facilitating events, creating displays and interactive features in the library, and participating in student and community outreach.
- Prepare and maintain items in the collection, including processing new items and repairing damaged ones, and ensuring all items are neatly (and orderly) shelved and in good condition.
- Oversee use of makerspace equipment, including educating and assisting students and staff in its use.
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
- Associate’s degree.
- Six months working in an academic or public library.
- Microsoft Excel and Word applications.
- Computer skills.
- Work effectively with the public.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Circulation and cataloging with Ex Libris Alma integrated library system.
Team Members can expect to be paid a salary between $34,727 to $45,145, which includes an excellent benefits package. The salary will be based on a combination of relevant education, training, work experience, and skill competencies.
