Scope of Position

The Nursing Learning Assistance Specialist plays a vital role in supporting student success by providing individualized and compassionate instructional assistance to nursing students. This position offers targeted remediation across didactic, clinical, and lab settings, helping students build confidence and competence in their academic and professional development. In alignment with the College’s mission and values, the role also includes guiding students in preparation for the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program’s exit examination and contributing to high-impact learning through clinical simulation and hands-on experiences. Through collaboration with faculty and a commitment to excellence, this position fosters a supportive learning environment that empowers students to achieve their goals.

Key Measurable Expectations (KMEs)

Student Support & Instruction


  • Provide individualized instructional support to nursing students, fostering academic growth and confidence in alignment with the College’s commitment to student success.
  • Assist students in identifying learning challenges and collaborate with nursing faculty to develop personalized plans for improvement.
  • Conduct targeted learning activities and remediation sessions to help students achieve successful outcomes on comprehensive standardized program exit exams.
  • Support students in developing effective test-taking strategies, including techniques to manage test anxiety and prepare for exams.
  • Assist with teaching clinical simulations and real-world clinical experiences, promoting hands-on learning and professional readiness.
  • Teach Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) classes on a substitute or short-term basis, contributing to instructional excellence and continuity.
Lab & Simulation Leadership
  • Collaborate with nursing faculty to support the daily operations of the nursing skills and simulator labs, ensuring a safe and effective learning environment.
  • Prepare and manage simulation scenarios, including technology setup, manikin moulage, scenario transitions, and end-of-day breakdowns.
  • Inventory, order, and maintain supplies for nursing labs to ensure readiness and resource availability.
Technical Maintenance & Simulation Support
  • Provide specialized technical support for simulation equipment and multimedia systems in partnership with IT and vendor support, ensuring optimal functionality and reliability.
  • Train faculty and staff on the technical aspects of simulation, promoting confidence and consistency in instructional delivery.
  • Plan and coordinate simulator maintenance schedules with faculty and staff to minimize disruptions and maintain instructional quality.
  • Conduct routine cleaning, repairs, and performance checks on simulation equipment to ensure all systems are in good working order.
  • Audit and test simulation systems regularly, staying current with product updates and specifications to support excellence in simulation-based education.
Program & Institutional Support
  • Assist with nursing program accreditation reports and reaccreditation processes, contributing to institutional integrity and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain active communication with faculty and staff to support program goals and student success.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission and values of the community college, including equity, access, and lifelong learning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, supporting the evolving needs of the nursing program and the College community.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current Illinois and Missouri licensure and a Master’s of Science in Nursing are required.
  • Minimum of two years of recent clinical nursing experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous simulation and nursing education experience.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS)

In this Grant Funded position, Team Members can expect to be paid a salary between $56,411 to $76,154 alongside an excellent benefits package. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
