Position Summary
As an Assistant Teacher, you will work alongside the Lead Teacher to create a safe, engaging, and nurturing Montessori classroom where children develop independence, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning. Your role is essential in supporting children's academic, social, and emotional development while helping maintain a positive and organized classroom environment.
Responsibilities:
- Support the Lead Teacher in implementing daily classroom activities and Montessori lessons
- Foster a positive, respectful, and engaging classroom environment
- Encourage children's independence while providing appropriate guidance and support
- Build meaningful relationships with children, families, and coworkers
- Observe and document children's progress
- Help prepare and maintain an organized classroom environment
- Monitor daily attendance and classroom routines
- Communicate professionally with families and staff
- Attend staff meetings, trainings, and school events
- Maintain confidentiality of student and school information
- Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming learning environment
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- At least 18 years of age
- Fluent in English
- Ability to pass all required federal and state background checks
- Reliable transportation to McLean, VA
Preferred Qualifications
- At least one year of experience working with young children
- CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
- Montessori experience is a plus, but not required
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Dependable, patient, nurturing, collaborative, and proactive
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Professional, team-oriented, and committed to providing exceptional care for young children
