$150,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year

About The Role
The Senior Manager, Engineering is responsible for managing the mechanical engineers and designers. This position will provide strategy, vision, direction, customer focus and a sense of urgency to engineering staff through leadership, management and teamwork, ensuring creative, efficient, fast track development and engineering expertise, while ensuring personal and staff challenge and development. This position works under minimum supervision.
Responsibilities
- Assist in developing, implementing, maintaining and communicating the departmental strategy that is consistent with and supports the business unit’s strategic initiatives
- Develop, implement, maintain and communicate the departmental plan that is consistent with and supports the business unit’s strategic initiatives; this includes department resource planning and development and budget preparation
- Plans Technology Management projects including scope of project, definitions of system and product, strategies and tactics, risk evaluation, schedule, resource requirements, budget and return
- Plans PDI interdepartmental team projects including scope of project, definitions of system and product, strategies and tactics, risk evaluation, schedule, resource requirements, budget and return
- Train, mentor and facilitate staff assuring all have opportunity for personal development and advancement
- Communicate corporate and business unit’s vision and strategic initiatives to staff
- Participate regularly as either a team member or a team leader
- Perform administrative duties such as creative, reviewing and monitoring schedules, attendance, timesheet and departmental budget
- Develop and implement key process and process improvement for the greater good of the company
- Coordinate activities and tasks within the team and within organizations including vendors, outside the team
- Researches applications, technologies and design alternatives for products from preliminary market requirements that are often lacking details
- Provides conceptual and detailed designs of a complex nature
- Verifies and validates design and project objectives to customers and business unit
- Responsibilities as a manager include interviewing and hiring employees; planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems
- Directly manage 1-15 employees
- Must have experience managing and leading engineering teams
- Strong background in engineering techniques and application required
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, or governmental regulations; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, and the general public
- Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to work in a highly confidential work environment
- The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to reduce complex engineering problem into simplified form and able to educate others
- Strong knowledge of patent processes, application and interpretation
- Ability to use a wide application of engineering principles, theories and concepts in the field plus a working knowledge of other related disciplines in providing imaginative, thorough and practicable solutions to a wide range of problems
- Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Engineering required. Masters degree preferred
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience managing a product development engineering team
- 15% of travel
