Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Construction Survey Crew Chief to join our team. This position is primarily focused on construction layout and as-built surveys, and candidates must have a minimum of three years of successful experience as a Survey Crew Chief.
The ideal candidate is a proven leader who can independently manage field operations, communicate effectively with contractors and office staff, and consistently deliver accurate, high-quality survey work in a fast-paced construction environment.
Responsibilities
The Construction Survey Crew Chief is responsible for leading field operations and performing a variety of surveying tasks associated with construction layout and as-built projects. This position oversees all aspects of field operations, including project control, construction staking, data collection, and coordination with office staff, contractors, and project managers. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead and supervise survey crews performing construction layout, as-built, boundary, and topographic surveys.
- Establish and maintain horizontal and vertical project control using GPS, robotic total stations, and data collectors.
- Perform construction layout, stakeout, and field verification for commercial and residential projects.
- Assist with survey computations and data collection, including construction layout calculations, grade verification, and project data management.
- Prepare and maintain accurate field notes, sketches, reports, and as-built documentation.
- Calculate elevations, grades, positions, and other field measurements required for construction projects.
- Read, interpret, and verify construction plans, engineering drawings, and survey documents.
- Coordinate daily field activities while communicating project progress, scheduling, and field conditions with office staff, project managers, and contractors.
- Maintain survey equipment, company vehicles, and field supplies.
- Ensure all work is performed safely, accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards.
- Represent Levine Surveying and Mapping with professionalism, integrity, and exceptional customer service on every project.
Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of successful experience as a Survey Crew Chief required
- Extensive experience with construction layout and as-built surveys
- Experience with boundary and topographic surveys preferred
- Proficient with GPS, robotic total stations, and electronic data collectors
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, engineering drawings, and survey documents
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and productive in challenging or high-pressure situations
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Requirements
- Must pass a drug screening.
- Must pass a background check.
- Must successfully complete a paid 3-5 day field evaluation prior to hire to assess qualifications, work performance, and team compatibility.

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
