Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Ophthalmology Surgery Scheduler to join our surgical coordination team. This position is responsible for organizing and scheduling ophthalmic surgeries, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and a seamless experience for both patients and providers.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience scheduling cataract and other ophthalmic procedures, a working knowledge of surgical terminology and insurance requirements, and a strong commitment to patient care and communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and schedule ophthalmic surgeries (including cataract, glaucoma, and cornea procedures) across multiple surgical centers.
- Verify insurance benefits, obtain pre-authorizations, and ensure medical clearances are received.
- Communicate clearly with patients regarding surgery dates, instructions, post-op appointments, and financial responsibilities.
- Serve as the liaison between the patient, surgeon, surgical center, and referring offices.
- Maintain accurate surgical calendars and EHR documentation.
- Prepare and distribute pre-op and post-op paperwork, consent forms, and drop prescriptions.
- Review daily surgery schedules to confirm accuracy and identify any missing information.
- Follow up with patients regarding required testing, clearances, and payments.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and company compliance policies.
- Support the efficiency and success of the surgical coordination process through proactive communication and attention to detail.
Qualifications
- Required: Prior Ophthalmology or medical surgery scheduling experience.
- Knowledge of ophthalmic terminology, surgical procedures, and insurance authorization processes.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with patients and staff.
- Ability to multitask, manage priorities, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with EHR systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to professionalism, punctuality, and teamwork.
Education
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate’s degree or medical office training preferred.
- COA or prior ophthalmic experience strongly preferred but not required.
Job Type: Full-time
Schedule: Monday–Friday, Day Shift (no evenings or weekends)
