Job Description:
The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for driving new business growth within assigned target markets. This role focuses on identifying, engaging, and converting prospective enterprise-level accounts into long-term customers. The BDM uses a consultative sales approach to understand client needs, uncover business challenges, and demonstrate the value and return on investment of the company’s products and services. The BDM represents the organization in the marketplace, including at networking events, conferences, and industry functions, and develops a strong understanding of customer challenges, market trends, and competitive positioning. In a typical year, the BDM secures new enterprise-level accounts and supports long-term account growth in partnership with internal teams.
Core Responsibilities
- Drive new enterprise opportunities through the full sales process, including outreach, discovery, presentations, solution discussions, and business case development.
- Prospect within assigned markets through cold outreach, networking, referrals, and strategic business development efforts.
- Apply a consultative selling methodology to identify customer needs and create new revenue opportunities.
- Collaborate with marketing to support targeted campaigns and lead generation efforts.
- Partner closely with account management or customer success teams to ensure smooth transitions from prospect to customer.
- Build strong customer relationships by understanding business priorities and aligning solutions to support organizational goals.
- Develop and deliver proposals, recommendations, and presentations tailored to customer needs.
- Maintain a strong understanding of market trends, customer challenges, and industry dynamics to position the company effectively.
- Communicate the value of the company’s products and services in a way that aligns with each customer’s business objectives.
- Represent the organization with professionalism in all presentations, meetings, proposals, and events.
- Participate in regular account planning sessions and provide updates on target accounts, pipeline activity, and strategic next steps.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of customer interactions, opportunities, and pipeline activity in the CRM system.
- Support long-term account growth by collaborating on strategic account plans and identifying opportunities for expansion.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At least three years of successful sales experience, preferably in business-to-business or enterprise sales.
- Demonstrated history of leadership in professional, academic, athletic, or community environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience in consultative sales, solution selling, or strategic account development.
- Experience managing complex sales cycles, including opportunities with longer decision timelines.
- Background in technology, professional services, or other solution-based selling environments.
- Experience selling to enterprise or mid-market organizations.
