Full-Time | Construction Accounting | Project Accounting
We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant with construction accounting experience to support our growing construction company. This is an in-office position ideal for an organized, self-directed accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
You’ll work closely with the Controller/Accounting Manager and Project Managers, supporting day-to-day accounting operations, project financials, and compliance requirements. About the Role
The Staff Accountant supports both the accounting department and project management team by performing a wide range of construction accounting and project accounting functions. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting job cost tracking, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements. This role reports to the Controller/Accounting Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoice processing, accurate coding, cost center assignments, and timely payments and collections.
- Prepare and process invoices, purchase orders, and change orders.
- Assist with construction payroll processing, including employee timesheets and related documentation.
- Maintain accurate financial records, accounting files, and organized filing systems.
- Reconcile bank accounts and credit card statements on a regular basis.
- Support financial reporting, including preparation of financial statements and management reports.
- Collaborate with project managers and internal teams to ensure accurate project financials and job cost tracking.
- Manage lien waivers, including preparation, tracking, and coordination with subcontractors and vendors.
- Support insurance administration, including certificate of insurance (COI) tracking, renewals, and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local accounting and filing requirements.
Qualifications – Construction / Project Accounting
Education & Experience
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent construction accounting experience).
- 2 years of experience in construction accounting, project accounting, or bookkeeping within a construction or contracting environment.
Construction Accounting Knowledge
- Strong understanding of construction AP/AR, including subcontractor and vendor payments.
- Experience with job costing, cost codes, project budgets, and cost center accounting.
- Familiarity with progress billing, retention, and change orders.
- Experience preparing and processing subcontractor and vendor invoices.
Lien Waivers, Compliance & Insurance
- Hands-on experience managing conditional and unconditional lien waivers.
- Knowledge of construction compliance requirements and subcontractor documentation.
- Experience tracking certificates of insurance, endorsements, renewals, and contract compliance.
Payroll & Reporting
- Experience supporting construction payroll (timesheets, certified payroll, labor allocation preferred).
- Ability to reconcile bank and credit card accounts.
- Experience supporting monthly financial reporting, job cost reports, and WIP schedules.
Systems & Software
- Strong Excel skills, including job cost analysis and financial reporting.
- High proficiency with QuickBooks (desktop).
- Experience with construction accounting software

- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Effective communication skills for working with project managers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams.
