What are the responsibilities and job description for the Drafter position at Level Crane Systems?
Draftsperson
Location: Irvine, CA 92618
Job Type: Full-time | In Person
Overview
Level Crane Systems is an exceptional team of professionals dedicated to delivering world-class
overhead crane solutions. We take pride in our positive work culture and commitment to innovation. We
are currently seeking a Draftsperson / Surveyor to join our rapidly growing company. This is primarily a
drafting and field survey role, with a secondary but meaningful focus on creating and developing
standard product designs across our overhead and gantry crane product lines in collaboration with our
engineering team.
Position Overview
Level Crane Systems is seeking a skilled Draftsperson to join our engineering team in creating precise
technical drawings and conducting field surveys for our crane and lifting equipment installations. This
role combines office-based CAD work with local travel to job sites for dimensional verification and site
assessment. The ideal candidate will translate both engineering concepts and real-world field
conditions into detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings.
In addition to project-based drafting work, this role plays an active part in creating the standard product
drawing packages, 3D models, and configuration families that define how we design and build our
overhead and gantry crane products. Working closely with our engineering team, the candidate will help
turn engineering direction into complete, manufacturable standard product designs.
Key Responsibilities
Drafting & Documentation
• Create detailed technical drawings, assembly drawings, and part specifications using AutoCAD
and SolidWorks
• Develop 3D models and renderings for crane components and systems
• Interpret and apply weld symbols, geometric tolerances, and facility layout requirements
• Maintain drawing standards, revision control, and documentation libraries
• Generate bills of materials (BOMs) and parts lists from 3D models
• Support manufacturing teams with drawing clarifications and field-related modifications
• Collaborate with engineers to ensure drawings meet design specifications and manufacturing
requirements
Field Survey and Site Assessment
• Conduct on-site surveys and field measurements to assess job site conditions, obstructions,
and spatial requirements for crane system installations
• Travel locally to project sites for dimensional verification and fitment analysis
• Read and interpret facility layouts, architectural drawings, and site plans
Standard Product Design
• Work with the engineering team to create complete drawing packages for standard overhead
crane and gantry crane product families, including single-girder bridge cranes, double-girder
bridge cranes, and A-frame gantry cranes across a range of capacities and spans
• Produce detailed part drawings, assembly drawings, and weld details for standard crane
components such as bridge beams, end trucks, leg assemblies, and runway connections
• Build parametric SolidWorks models for standard product configurations, enabling efficient
customization for varying capacities, spans, and height-under-beam requirements
• Develop and maintain modular component libraries so that standard parts and assemblies can
be reused and adapted efficiently across product families
• Create BOMs, cut lists, and material specifications tied to standard product configurations for
use by manufacturing and procurement
• Support the development of product selection documentation and dimensional data sheets used
by the sales and estimating teams
• Update and revise standard product drawings as designs are refined, materials change, or
manufacturing feedback is incorporated
Required Qualifications
• Minimum 2 years of professional drafting experience
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks (certification preferred)
• Ability to read and interpret weld symbols, GD&T, and geometric tolerances
• Experience reading facility layouts, architectural drawings, and site plans
• Willingness to travel locally for site surveys and field measurements
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Associate degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field (or equivalent
experience)
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and structural steel fabrication
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in both office and field environments
• Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with crane, lifting equipment, or heavy machinery industries
• Knowledge of structural steel design and fabrication
• Familiarity with AISC or CMAA standards and safety regulations
• Experience creating or maintaining standard product drawing libraries
• Experience with PDM/PLM systems
