Equipment Transport Driver
The Heavy Haul CDL Driver is responsible for the safe transportation of company equipment, materials, and support assets while assisting with yard operations, maintenance support, and field operations as needed. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that equipment, materials, and personnel arrive safely and efficiently to support Level 1 Paving projects.
The Heavy Haul CDL Driver reports directly to Nick Smith, Foreman, and serves as a key member of the operations team. This position requires a safety-focused professional who can operate independently, maintain compliance with DOT regulations, and represent the company professionally both on and off the job site.
Essential Job Functions
Transportation & Heavy Haul Operations
- Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles, tractor-trailers, lowboys, equipment trailers, dump trailers, and other company vehicles as assigned.
- Transport construction equipment, paving equipment, materials, attachments, and support assets to and from job sites, storage locations, vendors, and company facilities.
- Plan transportation activities to ensure equipment and materials arrive safely and on schedule.
- Maintain awareness of route restrictions, vehicle limitations, and transportation requirements.
- Operate company vehicles in a safe, professional, and courteous manner at all times.
Equipment Loading & Securement
- Load, unload, and properly secure equipment, attachments, materials, and cargo in accordance with company policies and applicable transportation regulations.
- Inspect tie-downs, chains, binders, straps, and securement devices before and during transportation.
- Verify equipment dimensions and transportation requirements prior to movement.
- Ensure all loads are transported safely and arrive without damage.
Vehicle Inspection & Safety Compliance
- Complete required pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Submit company-required vehicle safety inspection reports before operating or removing any DOT-regulated vehicle from company property.
- Immediately report defects, maintenance concerns, accidents, incidents, or safety hazards to supervision.
- Maintain a current CDL, DOT Medical Card, and all required driving qualifications.
- Work closely with the Foreman, Mechanic, and Safety Manager to ensure vehicles remain safe, compliant, and operational.
Yard Operations & Maintenance Support
- Assist with equipment loading, unloading, staging, and organization within the yard.
- Support the company mechanic with maintenance activities, inspections, and equipment preparation as needed.
- Assist with general housekeeping, organization, and operational readiness of company facilities and equipment.
- Support equipment mobilization and demobilization efforts.
Field Operations Support
- Assist project teams as needed to support field operations.
- Participate in traffic control activities after receiving company-provided Traffic Control certification.
- Support project mobilization efforts and help maintain efficient jobsite operations.
Education and Experience
- Valid CDL Class A license required.
- Current DOT Medical Card required.
- Minimum of 2 years of CDL driving experience with an automaitc & 10 speed required.
- Experience hauling construction equipment, trailers, materials, or heavy loads preferred.
- Knowledge of equipment loading, unloading, and cargo securement practices required.
- Ability to safely operate tractor-trailer combinations and heavy haul equipment.
- Knowledge of DOT regulations, vehicle inspections, and transportation safety requirements preferred.
- Must maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record.
- Must provide verifiable professional references.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary: $65,000 - $80,000 based on education/experience level.
