Role Summary

The Electrical and Electronics Engineer is the end-to-end owner of the vehicle’s electrical system architecture, spanning power generation and storage, motors and ESCs, power distribution and conversion, wiring and harnessing, grounding, EMI/EMC discipline, and system integration.

This is a hands-on engineering role with real technical authority and accountability. The ideal candidate can architect complex electrical systems, build and rework prototypes at the bench, troubleshoot under test pressure, and sign off on electrical designs and test readiness. This role operates as a peer to other engineers and plays a central role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and scalability of LeVanta’s unmanned systems.

The position is based on-site in Mississippi and is deeply embedded in daily prototype development and testing.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary technical owner of the vehicle’s electrical and electronic systems across all prototype and scaling variants.
  • Architect and maintain the electrical system design, including motors, ESCs, wiring harnesses, power distribution, power conversion, grounding, and protection.
  • Design, analyze, and sign off on electrical architectures and schematics, ensuring safe, robust operation in demanding environments.
  • Lead integration of battery and hybrid power systems, working closely with power and propulsion engineers.
  • Design and build wiring harnesses, prototype installations, and bench test setups; perform hands-on soldering, rework, and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure EMI/EMC discipline is designed in from day one, with readiness for exposure to MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-810 environments.
  • Support and participate in vehicle testing, including bench, integration, environmental, and flight testing.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with aero, structures, power, controls, and software engineers to ensure clean interfaces and system reliability.
  • Work with external suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure DFM/DFA, wiring repeatability, and production readiness.
  • Contribute to technical standards, documentation, and mentoring of less-experienced engineers as the team grows.

Measures of Success

  • Electrical System Reliability - Electrical systems operate reliably through testing milestones with no preventable electrical failures or unsafe conditions.
  • Clean Architecture & Integration - Electrical designs are clear, well-documented, and integrate cleanly with mechanical, propulsion, and avionics systems.
  • Power System Performance - Power distribution and conversion systems support mission requirements, efficiency targets, and hybrid operating modes without unexpected limitations.
  • EMI/EMC Readiness - Electrical designs demonstrate strong EMI awareness and progressively improved compliance readiness as testing matures.
  • Prototype Velocity - Prototypes move quickly from concept to test, with electrical issues identified early and resolved efficiently.
  • Scalable Design - Electrical architectures support scaling of a single vehicle platform across configurations without fundamental redesign.
  • Team Impact - Other engineers demonstrate improved electrical awareness and integration confidence due to this role’s leadership and collaboration.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Demonstrated experience designing and integrating electrical systems for UAS, aerospace, robotics, EVs, or similar complex platforms.
  • Strong understanding of motors, ESCs, power distribution, and power electronics.
  • Hands-on experience with wiring, harnessing, soldering, and bench troubleshooting.
  • Experience architecting battery-based and hybrid electrical systems.
  • Ability to sign off on electrical designs and test readiness.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, low-hierarchy startup environment.
  • Proficiency with standard electrical design and documentation tools.
  • Microsoft Office proficient

Skills & Experience Preferred

  • Experience designing for EMI/EMC and exposure to MIL-STD-461 / 810 environments.
  • Familiarity with firmware or embedded systems, including ESC tuning or controller configuration.
  • Experience supporting flight or field testing of unmanned systems.
  • Experience transitioning electrical designs from prototype to production.
  • Defense, aerospace, or high-reliability system experience.
