What are the responsibilities and job description for the Open Rank Faculty, Technology and Human Flourishing position at LeTourneau University?
This is a nine-month, tenure-track position with rank negotiable based on experience. Classes and other responsibilities are conducted primarily weekdays but could include some evening classes and independent studies. Attendance will also be required at some evening and weekend events.
Known as the Christian Polytechnic University, LeTourneau University is a vibrant and growing interdenominational, evangelical Christian university, recognized for high-quality STEM programs that attract students of outstanding academic ability. As a part of its strategic growth, LeTourneau has created a new general education program to advance its Christian polytechnic university saga that includes a course that equips students to reflect on the intersection of faith, technology, and human flourishing. LeTourneau invites applications and nominations for this strategic new position (open rank), which can come from any discipline* that is at the intersection of faith, technology, and human flourishing. This faculty member will also engage with LeTourneau’s Faith, Science, and Technology Initiative, support the strategic direction of the university, and teach courses within their discipline.
- Potential disciplines include but are not limited to: philosophy, psychology, social sciences, natural sciences, computer science, artificial intelligence, engineering, aviation, business, education, allied health, and medicine.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and teach topical courses in Technology and Human Flourishing that fulfill the newly revised General Education outcomes
- Serve as a faculty member and teach courses in the candidate’s primary discipline
- Contribute to the strategic vision of the university, especially with respect to the goal of becoming a trusted, national voice on Faith, Science, and Technology
- Maintain excellence in classroom teaching and promote creative and strong pedagogical practices within the course curriculum
- Participate actively in the university learning community by serving on department, school, and/or university committees and special service assignments
- Participate in student advising, success, and retention programs
- Maintain a commitment to academic scholarship in the field of expertise
- An enthusiastic and contagious Christian faith and a commitment to teaching, research, and leadership at a small, dynamic Christian University where the integration of faith and academic excellence is paramount
- Genuine agreement with the university’s Statement of Faith and Community Covenant for life and work at LeTourneau
- An earned doctorate from an accredited university
- Experience and/or formal training that prepare the candidate to teach in the area of technology and human flourishing
- An ability to think critically, creatively, and biblically about the role and impact of technology in today’s culture
- An ability to effectively communicate subject material and relate to students well
- Interpersonal skills to effectively and professionally interact with students, colleagues, and administrators in a university learning community
