Joppa Hill Farm & Forest School is seeking a part-time Director to lead our nature-based preschool program located at Joppa Hill Educational Farm in Bedford, NH.
This program is part of a network of Reggio-inspired forest schools managed by Let’s Grow Outside NH, which includes The Amherst Preschool and other outdoor early childhood programs in Southern New Hampshire. Our schools are known for offering a unique early childhood experience where children spend significant time outdoors engaged in open-ended play and exploration.
The Director serves as the leader of the school, guiding both the educational program and daily operations while supporting children’s learning through a Reggio-inspired, nature-based approach.
Position Details
Hours: 26 hours per week
Schedule
- Monday–Tuesday: 8:30 AM – 1:30 PM
- plus 1 additional hour each day for preparation
- Wednesday–Friday: 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM
Pay: $23–$28 per hour depending on experience
Responsibilities
Classroom Leadership
- Prepare indoor and outdoor learning environments with provocations inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach
- Support a play-based, inquiry-driven learning environment
- Spend multiple hours outdoors daily in all weather conditions
- Observe and document children’s learning through play
- Add materials and experiences based on children’s interests
- Model social and emotional skills for students
- Use creativity in choosing daily hikes, play spaces, and outdoor explorations
- Ensure children are dressed appropriately for weather conditions
- Communicate regularly with families
Program & Administrative Responsibilities
- Serve as the Director and leader of the school
- Meet weekly with the Executive Director of Let’s Grow Outside NH
- Gather materials from the Amherst school location
- Maintain a clean, organized learning space
- Ensure compliance with NH licensing requirements and staff protocols
- Write annual developmental assessments for students
- Complete 12 hours of professional development annually
Qualifications
- Must be Director-qualified under NH CCLU licensing requirements or willing to become qualified
- CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it through school training
- Experience in early childhood education
- Experience or interest in farm education and outdoor education
- Comfortable working outdoors for multiple hours in all weather conditions
- Strong communication and leadership skill
