Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Supported Employment Specialist to support individuals with disabilities in developing the skills necessary to obtain and maintain meaningful employment. This role involves direct coaching, job training, and collaboration with employers and community partners to ensure successful workforce integration.
This position will also support participants enrolled in the Texas Beacons of Excellence (TBE) Project, providing employment services and contributing to long-term workforce outcomes through the San Antonio State Supported Living Center.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, problem-solver, and mentor who can inspire individuals while adapting to diverse learning and workplace environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop individualized employment and job skills training plans based on each client’s strengths, interests, and goals
- Provide hands-on job coaching and task training in real work environments, ensuring tasks are performed to employer standards
- Support clients in building workplace routines, appropriate behaviors, and interpersonal skills necessary for success
- Deliver employment services including Supported Employment, Customized Employment, Job Placement, Job Coaching, and Work Experience
- Facilitate pre-employment training and guide clients through the career discovery process prior to placement
- Assist clients with job search strategies, applications, and interview preparation
- Identify and address barriers to employment while helping clients set and achieve realistic goals
- Monitor, evaluate and support client progress, gradually reducing support to promote independence
- Network with employers to develop job opportunities and build strong community partnerships
- Negotiate job duties, workplace supports, and reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities
- Develop natural supports within the workplace and provide employers with training and technical assistance on inclusive practices
- Collaborate with program partners, including universities, workforce agencies, and service providers, to ensure coordinated support
- Coordinate referrals for benefits counseling and incorporate information into employment planning
- Participate in trainings, community events, and outreach efforts to promote services and expand impact
- Maintain accurate documentation, including service notes, progress tracking, timesheets, and monthly reports
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred
- Experience working with adults is a plus
- Strong understanding of workplace expectations and job readiness skills
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to problem-solve and adapt in dynamic environments
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Commitment to inclusion and person-centered practices
- Ability to motivate, coach, and inspire others
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel between job sites
- Ability to perform physical job tasks (including bending and lifting as needed)
- Background check required (must be able to pass)
- Job Skills Training Certification will be provided
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
