Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Telecommunications Consultant with a current RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) certification to join our team. The ideal candidate will lead the planning, design, and coordination of low-voltage communications infrastructure for commercial, institutional, and data center environments. This role requires deep knowledge of structured cabling systems, telecommunications spaces, high-density deployments, and ICT industry standards. Proficiency in Revit for BIM modeling and multidiscipline coordination is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive ICT and low-voltage infrastructure designs, including structured cabling, pathways, telecommunications rooms, grounding/bonding, containment systems, and wireless layouts in accordance with BICSI, TIA/EIA, and local codes.
- Create and manage detailed Revit models to accurately represent telecommunications systems, particularly in complex data center environments with high cable density, overhead busway systems, and equipment layouts.
- Design data center cabling infrastructures including MPO/MTP systems, fiber architectures, cross-connects, meet-me rooms, hot/cold aisle layouts, and cabinet/containment configurations.
- Prepare construction drawings, riser diagrams, specifications, bill of materials, and technical documentation for bidding and construction.
- Conduct field assessments to evaluate existing telecom/data center infrastructure and provide upgrade or expansion recommendations.
- Coordinate closely with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure alignment between telecom systems, data center operational requirements, and overall project goals.
- Participate in interdisciplinary BIM coordination meetings and clash detection efforts.
- Review submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs, ensuring clarity and adherence to project requirements.
- Provide ongoing technical support, quality control, and subject-matter expertise throughout all phases of design and construction.
- Stay current with emerging data center technologies, standards, redundancy practices, and BIM workflows.
Qualifications
- RCDD certification (required).
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
- 3–7 years of experience in telecommunications/ICT design, including data center projects.
- Advanced proficiency with Revit for telecom and data center system modeling.
- Strong understanding of BICSI, TIA/EIA, NFPA, and data center-specific standards (e.g., Uptime Institute, ANSI/BICSI 002).
- Demonstrated experience producing accurate construction documents and specifications.
- Excellent communication, client coordination, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and fast-paced project schedules.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with AutoCAD, BIM 360, Navisworks, or other BIM coordination tools.
- Knowledge of related low-voltage systems: security, AV, DAS, wireless, and monitoring systems.
- Familiarity with power and mechanical considerations in data centers to support cross-discipline coordination.
