Les Lilas French Bilingual Community School is seeking a dedicated and dependable Facilities Manager to maintain the cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of our four-building campus (approximately 8,000 square feet total) in Kirkland, Washington. This is a hands-on, on-site role that is essential to our school community. The Facilities Manager ensures that our learning environment is clean, well-maintained, properly supplied, and welcoming for students, staff, and families every day.

The following duties are representative of the work performed in this position. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Cleaning & Sanitation

  • Perform daily cleaning and sanitizing of all classrooms, offices, hallways, entryways, and common areas across four campus buildings
  • Clean and restock all restrooms throughout the day; ensure soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and other supplies are consistently available
  • Clean kitchen and break areas, including appliances, sinks, countertops, and floors
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and spot-clean all floor surfaces on a regular schedule
  • Empty and dispose of trash and recycling from all interior and exterior receptacles; replace liners
  • Clean windows, glass doors, and mirrors as scheduled
  • Perform deep-cleaning tasks on a scheduled rotation, including baseboards, vents, light fixtures, and furniture
  • Disinfect high-touch surfaces (door handles, light switches, handrails) daily

Facilities Maintenance

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs on buildings, equipment, plumbing fixtures, lighting, and furniture
  • Identify and report maintenance needs, safety hazards, or infrastructure concerns to the Operations Manager in a timely manner
  • Coordinate with external contractors or vendors for repairs or services outside the scope of this role; assist with scheduling and on-site oversight
  • Maintain and care for all school grounds and outdoor areas, including walkways and entrances
  • Set up and break down furniture, equipment, and spaces for school events, meetings, and special programs
  • Monitor and maintain HVAC filters, lighting, and other building systems as directed
  • Respond to urgent facilities needs and emergencies as they arise
  • Safely operate and drive the school's 14-passenger bus for student transportation, field trips, and other school-related purposes as assigned

Supplies & Inventory

  • Track, manage, and reorder janitorial and maintenance supplies using the school's inventory system
  • Maintain organized and safe storage of cleaning products, tools, and equipment in compliance with safety standards (SDS/MSDS compliance)
  • Receive deliveries of supplies and equipment; verify orders and update inventory records
  • Monitor usage and communicate supply needs proactively to the Operations Manager

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all applicable OSHA standards, Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) safety regulations, and school safety protocols
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with applicable regulations
  • Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS/SDS) for all chemical products used
  • Participate in required safety training, drills, and certifications assigned
  • Comply with Washington State mandatory reporter obligations — all school employees are required reporters under RCW 26.44.030 and must report suspected child abuse or neglect

Driving & Vehicle Operation — Legal Requirements

This position requires operation of the school's 14-passenger bus. The Facilities Manager must comply with all applicable Washington State and federal laws governing the operation of a passenger vehicle used to transport students, including:

  • Hold a valid Washington State driver's license appropriate to the vehicle operated at all times; immediately notify the Operations Manager of any suspension, revocation, or restriction of driving privileges (RCW 46.20)
  • Maintain a clean driving record as a condition of continued employment in this role; a motor vehicle record (driving history) check will be conducted prior to employment and periodically thereafter
  • Comply with Washington's Commercial Driver's License (CDL) requirements — a CDL with the appropriate endorsement is required if the vehicle is designed to carry 16 or more persons (including the driver) or has a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more (RCW 46.25); the school will confirm with WA DOL whether the specific vehicle and its use require a CDL, endorsement, or School Bus Driver qualification under RCW 28A.160.210 and WAC 392-144/392-145
  • Comply with the Washington Age Limit for School Bus and For-Hire Drivers (RCW 46.20.045) if applicable to this role
  • Comply with Washington's seat belt law (RCW 46.61.688) and ensure all passengers are properly secured before the vehicle is put in motion
  • Comply with Washington's distracted driving / Driving Under the Influence of Electronics Act (RCW 46.61.672) — no handheld electronic device use while driving
  • Comply with Washington's Driving Under the Influence laws (RCW 46.61.502/.504) — zero tolerance for operating any school vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Perform required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and promptly report any mechanical or safety concerns before operating the vehicle
  • Maintain current vehicle registration, insurance, and any required medical certification if applicable to the vehicle's classification

Required

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in janitorial, custodial, facilities maintenance, or a related field
  • Working knowledge of general building maintenance, cleaning techniques, and safe use of cleaning chemicals and equipment
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail and a high standard for cleanliness and organization
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional with strong communication skills
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record, required for operating the school's 14-passenger bus
  • Ability to pass a Washington State Patrol criminal history background check and FBI fingerprint-based background check as required for school employment (RCW 28A.400.303)
  • Authorized to work in the United States; must complete Form I-9 verification upon hire

Preferred

  • Experience working in a school, childcare, or institutional environment
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or other building systems
  • Familiarity with inventory tracking or facilities management software
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
  • Prior experience driving passenger vans or small buses

  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and outdoor weather
  • Ability to use hands and arms to operate cleaning equipment, tools, and machinery

Regular Weekly Schedule

  • Sunday: 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM (2 hours, cleaning/prepping facilities for Monday a.m. classes)
  • Monday through Friday: 12:00 PM – 7:30 PM (7 hours/day, 35 hours/week, minus 30 minute daily meal break)
  • Total regular scheduled hours: approximately 37 hours per week

Additional Hours

Occasional weekend or evening hours beyond the regular schedule may be required for school events, deep-cleaning projects, or urgent facilities needs.. As an exempt salaried employee, all hours worked over 40 will be exempt from over-time pay. Additional pay can be negotiated for work outside of the essential job duties of the position.

Salary Range

$52,150 – $59,000 gross annual salary. Actual salary offered will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and internal equity. This position is classified as salaried non-exempt; the employee is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked in excess of 40 per workweek.
