What You Will Be Doing

We are seeking a Manufacturing Equipment Engineer to support equipment planning, automation, and capital projects within a high-volume automotive paint manufacturing environment.

In this role, you'll be responsible for evaluating, planning, specifying, and implementing manufacturing equipment used in paint shop operations. Working closely with cross-functional engineering teams, you'll help develop equipment standards, support new vehicle launches, improve existing processes, and manage equipment life cycle initiatives across multiple North American facilities.

This position is approximately 80% office/project work and 20% shop-floor support, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both technical planning and hands-on manufacturing involvement.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate equipment proposals, manufacturing processes, and equipment capabilities.
  • Plan and manage equipment projects supporting new model launches and facility improvements.
  • Develop equipment specifications, standards, and procurement documentation.
  • Create A3, Ringi, technical reports, presentations, and project KPI updates.
  • Lead equipment standardization initiatives across multiple North American manufacturing facilities.
  • Support conveyor systems, paint shop equipment, and automation projects.
  • Participate in equipment inspections, installation reviews, and quality verification.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, maintenance, suppliers, and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, reliability, and lead times.
  • Develop solutions to project constraints while maintaining quality, safety, and schedule objectives.
  • Become a technical expert in paint shop equipment and manufacturing technologies.

What You'll Need to Be Successful

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent engineering/technical experience.
  • Experience developing equipment specifications.
  • Experience using CAD or similar design software.
  • Experience creating A3 and/or Ringi documentation for equipment procurement.
  • Minimum of 2 years of project management experience.
  • Strong manufacturing engineering background.
  • Ability to identify technical issues and develop practical countermeasures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with automotive paint shop equipment and processes.
  • SEIBI experience.
  • PLC programming or troubleshooting knowledge.
  • Conveyor system experience.
  • Machine Risk Analysis (MSRC) experience.
  • Experience supporting new model launches.
  • Experience with:
  • Paint booths
  • Ovens
  • Abatement systems
  • Air houses
  • Enclosures
  • Automation or robot programming experience.
  • Vision system programming and implementation.
  • Equipment maintenance experience.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Japanese is a plus.
