Summary:
This position is responsible for supporting company-wide compliance with U.S. import and export regulations and working directly with import brokers and freight forwarders to clear incoming and outgoing shipments and address and resolve all import/export issues. Tasks include supporting the Import and Export Manager with the preparation of required documentation associated with imports/exports including, but not limited to, compliance with the Customs and Border Control (CBP) import/export regulations providing HTS/ Schedule B codes, ECCN classifications, licenses, and all related documentation for the import/export of hardware, software, data and services. This role is also responsible for maintaining import/export classification databases, import/export license documentation and related activities. Candidates must maintain or achieve Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or Certified Export Specialist (CES) certification. Candidates must have the ability to assess the trade compliance risks of executing transactions with non-US entities in a variety of capacities (e.g., customers, affiliates, sales promoters, suppliers, employees, and every other function of the company that deals with non-US persons or entities).
Responsibilities:
- Responds to daily RFI (requests for information) from brokers, CBP, etc.
- Reviews all pre- and post-entry import documentation for accuracy of classifications, associated duties, and all other required information.
- Ensure all imported goods comply with local, state and federal customs regulations, laws and trade policies.
- At the direction of the Import/Export Manager, works with every other department, and third parties as necessary, to ensure compliance with company policy and procedures on International Trade Controls, and drafts, amends, and files import/export documentation, as required. All of the above shall also be in support of company parent and/or independent third party and/or government audits/site assessments.
- Maintain internal databases with required import/export information (i.e., SAP, tiger spreadsheet, HTS/ECCN updates, etc.)
- Works collaboratively to develop and implement automated solutions related to import/export activities.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years in a trade compliance role or an equivalent combination of education/certification and experience.
- Possesses solid knowledge of U.S. import/export control regulations including U.S. Customs Regulations (19 CFR), classification (ECCN, HTSUS) responses.
Licensure/Certification:
- Certified Customs Specialist/Certified Export Specialist preferred
