Job Summary

Leonardo DRS Land Systems is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead and oversee multiple engineering functions, including Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, and Software Engineering.  The Senior Engineering Manager will manage engineering personnel at the DRS Land Systems Goleta, CA facility primarily working advanced research, rapid prototyping, and new product development efforts.  The ideal candidate will possess proven experience in a leadership role managing multiple engineering functions, as well as a strong technical background in one (or more) of the subject engineering disciplines.  The candidate must have the ability to manage a technical group independently.  The Senior Engineering Manager will report to the Advanced Technology Program Management Director and play a key role in developing talent, driving innovation, and executing strategic business objectives.

Job Responsibilities

Site Leadership:

    • Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the engineering site, ensuring alignment with the organization's goals and objectives
    • Develop and maintain a safe and productive work environment, adhering to all safety regulations and best practices
    • Adhere to all security protocols and work with the site Facility Security Officer to ensure all personnel are also in compliance
    • Participate in preparation of proposals
    • Manage site/departmental budgets, ensuring effective allocation of resources and adherence to financial constraints
    • Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization

Leadership and Management:

    • Recruit, mentor and train top talent.  Foster a culture of innovation and creativity within the team
    • Lead and manage a collaborative multidisciplinary engineering team including electrical, mechanical, systems, and software engineering
    • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to engineering staff with a focus on professional development
    • Manage budget, cost, and schedule input for design assignments
    • Establish clear objectives, priorities, and performance expectations for the engineering teams.  Set performance goals, conduct performance reviews, and provide feedback to team members

Collaboration and Communication:

    • Act as the primary point of contact for all engineering-related matters for the Goleta site; coordinating with the LS headquarters staff in Bridgeton, MO
    • Foster effective communication and collaboration across engineering disciplines and with other functions including engineering, marketing, business development, supply chain and manufacturing
    • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required
    • Work closely with other engineering functional managers to ensure process consistency, resource planning and allocation, and functional department coordination, driving synergy and efficiency across all engineering functions
    • Attend in-person/remote appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings

Process Improvement:

    • Establish mechanisms to collect feedback and continuously improve team processes and outputs
    • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in engineering and rapid prototyping to ensure the team remains at the forefront of innovation.
    • Ensure that the engineering team has access to the latest tools, training, and resources to support continuous learning and development

 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, or Software) or a related technical field
  • 7 years of relevant experience
  • Proven experience in a leadership role managing direct reports and multiple engineering functions
  • Experience working in rapid prototyping and within the DoD industrial base
  • Strong technical background with a deep understanding of electrical, mechanical, systems, and/or software engineering principles
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively lead and collaborate with diverse and distributed teams
  • Willing and able to travel up to 20% of the time

 

The expected pay scale for this position is $146,497.00/year - $197,771.00/year for the state of California. Should the level, location, or scope of the position change during the hiring process, the pay scale may be modified accordingly. When extending an offer of employment, Leonardo DRS considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position; any Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, the candidate’s relevant work experience, education/training, certifications, and key skills; internal equity; and market and business considerations.
