Overview:
This position performs specialized court functions such as clerical, customer service, fiscal and record-keeping work related to the business operations of the court division. Employees undertake a wide range of duties and are required to be cross trained to learn and fulfill the requirements of more than one job. Work is performed in accordance with established rules, policies, and statutes. All employees must be able to assist at the counter and handle inbound and outbound calls, addressing customer inquiries, and other miscellaneous and ancillary duties. This position is classified as non-exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
STARTING SALARY WILL NOT EXCEED 10% OF THE BASE SALARY
- Perform cashiering functions, including processing payments for fees, fines, and other charges assessed.
- Reconcile daily receipts with funds received and complete bank deposit procedures as assigned.
- Provide accurate and courteous information to the public regarding Clerk programs and services, both in person and via telephone.
- Process incoming mail.
- Prepare legal documents in compliance with statutory requirements and court standards.
- Assist customers through the customer service call center, addressing a wide range of inquiries and service needs.
- Deliver professional and respectful customer service, adapting to diverse and complex customer requests.
- Utilize Clerk & Comptroller databases and documentation to research and resolve customer inquiries; update and close work orders accordingly.
- Conduct detailed research of court records to respond to public and internal inquiries.
- Docket case disposition information for traffic infractions, county/municipal ordinances, and criminal infractions.
- Process and clear driver’s license suspensions when applicable.
- Participate in cross-training initiatives, serving in both trainer and trainee roles to support team versatility.
- Operate standard office equipment, including photocopiers, scanners, fax machines, and voicemail systems.
- Perform duties under pressure while meeting strict deadlines and mandated state and agency standards.
- Work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative and accountability.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support departmental operations.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or a GED equivalent, and six months of clerical, customer service, banking, paralegal, criminal justice, or other related work experience. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job may be substituted for the education and experience requirement.
Some college-level or certificate-type program courses in business, accounting, criminal justice, or paralegal studies preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, and ABILITIES:Court and Legal Knowledge
- Ability to complete all required introductory court learning curriculum for the assigned court division.
- Understanding of legal documents and their purposes.
- Familiarity with cashiering operations, collection documentation, and related procedures.
- Knowledge of Clerk’s programs, functions, departments, and services to effectively respond to service requests.
- Understanding of Clerk’s recordkeeping systems, practices, and procedures.
