What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant position at Leon Capital Group?
About Leon Capital Group
Founded in 2006 by Fernando De Leon, Leon Capital Group is a Dallas-based diversified holding company that combines the best attributes of family office flexibility and institutional quality investing, with the singular objective of durable compound interest. What began as a modest, privately-owned real estate development company has since evolved into a multi-industry enterprise spanning financial services, healthcare, real estate, and technology, with $10B in cumulative assets across 25 platforms and 400 acquired businesses.
Leon is not a private equity fund. The firm conceives, builds, owns, and operates companies, with frontline working principals who are intensely focused on protecting margins and continuously enhancing value. For professionals who join LCG, that means meaningful scope, long-term alignment, and the resources of a well-capitalized institution without the constraints of a fund-driven timeline.
The Opportunity
Leon Capital Group is seeking a Senior Accountant to support the Direct Investments division, a portfolio of operating companies spanning financial services, healthcare, and adjacent industries. This is a high-ownership role for a technically strong accountant who thrives in a complex, multi-entity environment and brings the judgment to operate independently when the path forward is not always clearly defined.
The right candidate has come up through public accounting, understands how to manage competing priorities across multiple business lines, and is as comfortable rolling up their sleeves on a journal entry as they are presenting findings to senior leadership. This person will assess what exists, identify what is missing, and build the processes and controls that make the function run better.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Close:
- Own the month-end and year-end close processes across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency in financial reporting.
- Prepare and maintain financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance across a multi-entity portfolio.
Accounting Operations:
- Manage accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal policies.
- Maintain and reconcile fixed assets, accruals, and intercompany transactions across operating entities.
- Identify discrepancies in financial data, investigate root causes, and implement solutions independently.
Process Development & Controls:
- Assess existing accounting processes and build or improve workflows where gaps exist.
- Establish and maintain internal controls that support accurate financial reporting and operational efficiency.
- Contribute to systems improvements and the standardization of accounting practices across the portfolio.
Cross-Functional Partnership:
- Serve as a trusted financial resource to operating company leadership and internal stakeholders across financial services, healthcare, and real estate.
- Collaborate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other third parties as needed.
- Support ad hoc financial analysis, reporting, and special projects as directed by senior leadership.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5–7 years of accounting experience, with a foundation in public accounting strongly preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple entities or clients simultaneously with a high degree of accuracy and independence.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting software (Yardi, Sage, Intacct, or comparable platforms).
- 4–6 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred:
- CPA or actively pursuing CPA certification.
- Experience in a multi-industry, multi-entity, or family office environment.
- Background supporting private equity-backed or closely held operating companies.
- Exposure to financial services, healthcare, or real estate accounting.
What We Are Looking For
LCG is a lean, founder-led organization where talented people are given meaningful scope, direct access to senior leadership, and the opportunity to make a real impact across a diverse portfolio of operating companies. The Senior Accountant who succeeds here brings a strong technical foundation, a high degree of ownership, and the ability to thrive in an environment that rewards intellectual curiosity and independent thinking.
If you are looking for an opportunity to grow your career inside a well-capitalized, multi-industry platform with the backing of an established private investment firm, we want to hear from you.
