The Position
Genentech is seeking a transformational Vice President, Head of Site Services Operations to lead one of our most strategically critical functions. This pivotal executive role oversees the operational heartbeat of our South San Francisco campus-a 200 acre complex spanning 5 million square feet across 55 buildings-while directing regional site operations across the United States. As a member of the Site Services Leadership Group reporting to the Senior Vice President of Site Services, you will serve as a trusted advisor to the Genentech Executive Committee, balancing operational efficiency with innovation to enable cutting-edge research, development, manufacturing, and commercial activities that advance our mission to provide life-saving medicine.
Leading a dynamic organization of approximately 225 employees and over 1,000 contingent workers, you will champion strategic initiatives that span Site Operations, Workforce Services, Digital Strategy & Products, and Sustainability. This role demands a leader who can architect campus transformation during major redevelopment projects, scale integrated facilities management across satellite locations, and leverage emerging technologies-including AI and smart building strategies-to modernize operations and elevate the employee experience. Your strategic vision and operational excellence will be instrumental in managing a $250M budget while ensuring regulatory compliance, driving cost-effectiveness, and advancing Roche's ambitious sustainability and zero-emissions goals.
The ideal candidate brings 15 years of progressive senior leadership experience in complex campus or facilities management environments, demonstrating a proven track record of scaling operations, leading organizational change, and thriving in GMP-regulated biotech or healthcare settings. The Opportunity
- Develop and execute comprehensive strategies for operational continuity and excellence throughout major campus redevelopment initiatives, including demolition and reconstruction, while scaling site services across regional locations and integrating satellite campuses through Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) models.
- Oversee complex campus infrastructure management across 5 million square feet of office, lab, and GMP manufacturing space, directing vendor partnerships, asset management strategies, and SMART building/AI initiatives to optimize operations and enhance employee experience.
- Manage a $250M operating budget with accountability for cost-effectiveness, continuous operational improvements, and financial stewardship across a multifaceted organization of 225 direct and 1,000 contingent employees.
- Champion sustainability leadership aligned with Roche's zero-emissions roadmap, advancing decarbonization, waste management, and circular economy implementation while integrating sustainability with day-to-day site services operations.
- Enhance employee experience and workforce services by overseeing campus amenities including transportation, catering, childcare, and health/fitness programs.
- Maintain executive partnerships and strategic communication as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing recommendations on organizational design, operational risks, and serving as key interface with stakeholders across Pharma, Diagnostics, R&D, and global Roche site operations leaders.
- Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Economics, Business, Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 15 years of progressively responsible senior leadership experience in campus management, business functions, or engineering roles
- Proven expertise managing complex, multi-building campus environments with significant asset value exceeding $3 billion
- Track record of successfully leading organizational change initiatives, including M&A integrations and multi-region operational scaling
- Experience operating within GMP/regulated environments, preferably in biotech or healthcare industries
