Key Responsibilities
Performance Tuning & Optimization --
- Analyze execution plans, waits, and indexes to identify performance bottlenecks.
- Optimize queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies for maximum throughput.
- Implement database partitioning, statistics tuning, and parameter sniffing mitigation strategies.
- Fine-tune Azure SQL resource utilization (DTUs/vCores, IOPS, memory usage).
- Identify and resolve deadlocks, blocking, and excessive I/O or CPU consumption.
- Use Azure Monitor, Query Store, Extended Events, and Dynamic Management Views (DMVs) to track performance metrics and detect anomalies.
- Build proactive monitoring dashboards and alerts.
- Conduct periodic performance health checks and optimization cycles.
- Advise on schema design improvements for scalability and performance.
- Implement best practices for indexing, partitioning, and table design.
- Manage database security, backups, and disaster recovery processes in Azure SQL.

Skills And Requirements
- 7 years of experience as a SQL Server DBA with at least 3 years in Azure SQL Database.
- Expert-level skills in T-SQL, query tuning, and execution plan analysis.
- Mastery of DMVs, Query Store, Extended Events, and Azure Monitor.
- Proven track record of reducing query execution times and resource consumption significantly.
- In-depth understanding of indexes, statistics, locking/blocking, and waits.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
- Experience with high-transaction, mission-critical systems.
- Familiarity with SQL Server 2022 features and their Azure equivalents.
