Key Responsiblities
Strategic Leadership & Content Direction
- Define and articulate a clear content strategy for sports coverage and signature programming, ensuring alignment with newsroom, and station priorities.
- Lead the creative direction of the late‑night sports show, New York Nightcap, ensuring the format reflects a modern, culturally relevant, audience‑centric approach.
- Provide consistent editorial direction and coach the team on executing the show’s mission across platforms.
- Develop and execute a streaming/CTV content plan.
- Develop and maintain forward‑looking editorial calendars, major event plans, and sponsorship‑ready segments.
- Provide strong, steady leadership that sets expectations, establishes accountability, and empowers staff.
- Develop and mentor producers, anchors, and reporters, fostering growth, creativity, and editorial excellence.
- Drive continuous improvement, regularly auditing shows for quality, tone, pacing, creativity, and alignment with strategy.
- Own and deliver all scheduling, staffing, and resource planning for the sports department.
- Ensure all content plans, sponsorship materials, and cross‑department deliverables are completed accurately and on deadline.
- Drive operational discipline, anticipating staffing or workflow gaps well ahead of time.
- Partner closely with News, Sales, Creative/Marketing, and Digital/CTV teams on sponsorships, branded segments, repurposed content, and special programming.
- Work with other Nexstar stations across New York for programming produced by PIX11 and distributed across the group.
- Proactively communicate plans, changes, and needs to stakeholders with clarity and professionalism.
- Ensure smooth handoff of deliverables, transparent deadlines, and strong cross‑team alignment.
- 7 years of experience in sports broadcasting, news production, or related content leadership.
- Minimum 3 years managing teams of producers, anchors, or reporters in a live ‑ production environment.
- 5 years experience in a top-25 market with multiple major league teams.
- BA in Communications, Journalism, or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Proven track record of operational excellence, including scheduling, long ‑ term planning, and assignment management.
- Demonstrated ability to clearly articulate and execute a show mission or brand vision.
- Strong delegation and organizational skills; ability to balance multiple priorities in a deadline ‑ driven newsroom.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to lead with professionalism, clarity, and composure.
- Experience collaborating with Sales, Creative, and Digital teams on integrated content and sponsorship deliverables.
- Strong editorial judgment, news sense, and awareness of current sports and pop ‑ culture trends.
