Position Purpose
To provide informatics support users of the Wayne State University cores.
Essential Functions
Bioinformatics support for Genome Sciences Core (GSC) services including alignment, count tabulation, differential analyses of transcriptomics and methylation, variant detection, metagenomics, and single-cell RNA (Ribonucleic Acid) sequencing (scRNA-seq – Single Cell Ribonucleic Acid sequencing) analysis.
Targeted bioinformatics analysis on funded research projects.
Communicate project progress and results with Genome Sciences Core (GSC} users.
Investigate and implement updated pipelines to address research questions.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree
Bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, biostatistics, biology, chemistry, or a related field is appropriate for Research Assistant.
Ph.D. in bioinformatics, biostatistics, biology, chemistry, or a related field is appropriate for Research Associate.
Experience: Intermediate (3 – 4 years of job-related experience).
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Candidate must have proficiency in a scripting language (Perl/Python) as well as robust knowledge of R and Unix commands.
Demonstrated statistics skills and an ability to integrate complex data to answer informatics research questions.
Familiarity with protein analysis is desirable.
