This candidate will be helping our client undertake a Data Modernization Initiative designed to enhance analytics, reporting, and data-driven decision-making capabilities. The modernization leverages Azure Databricks, Erwin Data Modeler, SQL Server, and Power BI to establish a scalable, governed, and insight-rich data platform. We are seeking a Senior Data Analyst to bridge the gap between business needs and technical implementation. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Data Architect, Data Engineers, and Business Stakeholders to define data requirements, document lineage, and produce business-aligned analytics solutions.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborate with business and technical teams to gather, analyze, and document functional requirements for data and analytics solutions.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including: Functional Requirement Documents (FRDs), Data Definitions and Metadata Dictionaries, Data Lineage and Mapping Documents (using Erwin DM or equivalent), and Technical Solution Design Documents under Architect’s guidance.
- Partner with data engineers and architects to translate business requirements into data models, transformations, and reporting logic in Azure Databricks and SQL Server.
- Validate data quality, accuracy, and consistency across systems and reports.
- Support Power BI dashboard and report development, ensuring alignment with business KPIs and usability standards.
- Facilitate workshops and discussions with stakeholders to define metrics, KPIs, and business rules.
- Ensure traceability of requirements from source systems through data pipelines to reports.
- Contribute to establishing data governance, metadata management, and documentation best practices.
Skills And Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- 5-7 years of experience in Data Analysis / Business Analysis roles, preferably within data modernization or analytics projects.
- Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL processes, and data warehousing concepts.
- Hands-on experience with SQL Server.
- Need to have a good understanding / experience with SQL Server Management Studio
- 1-2 years of experience with Power BI (building or validating reports, dashboards, DAX logic).
- They will be working alongside people with Power BI skillsets, they don’t need to be able to build in power BI
- 2-3 years of Experience with Lucid or Visio for data lineage and metadata documentation.
- Excellent documentation skills — ability to produce clear, detailed, and structured requirement and solution documents.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills — able to interface effectively with both business and technical audiences.
- Background in healthcare or education domains preferred (especially understanding of data privacy, compliance, and student/learner data).
- Exposure to Azure Data Lake, Synapse, or Data Factory.
- Experience defining data governance and master data management frameworks.
- Knowledge of data quality tools and practices.
