Simon & Schuster flagship imprint is seeking a Publicity Assistant to work closely with and support two Publicity directors.
This is a fantastic opportunity to learn all aspects of the book publicity and publishing processes, with an emphasis on promoting nonfiction (memoir, news, history, business, literary) releases. The candidate must be organized, detail-oriented, have excellent presentation and computer skills, and possess a working knowledge of traditional and social media. Strong written communication is essential, as well as the ability to multitask, problem solve and have a “can-do” spirit. This is an ideal position for a curious, confident, and self-motivated person who has a passion for books, an understanding of media in all forms, and is interested in learning how to execute book publicity campaigns. Responsibilities include administrative duties, as well as involvement in all aspects of publicity campaigns.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable. Key Responsibilities Include
- Handling outreach for assigned paperback campaigns
- Assisting with monthly award submissions
- Processing departmental and campaign-related invoices and ordering supplies as needed
- Coordinating logistics for meetings and preparing meeting materials
- Gathering and communicating media coverage to S&S team members
- Handling or assisting with review copy mailings
- Drafting publicity materials, building media lists, and pitching select media and bookstores for coverage and events
- Liaising with media and event venues for arranged author interviews and events
- Helping to arrange author travel for tours and appearances
- Updating detailed media schedules and internal campaign tracking systems
