Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead and develop teams of hourly Tool Room, Mechanical Design, and Tool & Gage employees, including staffing, training, work allocation, coaching, and performance management while fostering a positive, respectful, and safe work environment.
- Set and uphold expectations for EHS compliance, quality standards, productivity, and professional behavior; communicate performance expectations and feedback, including managing sensitive issues.
- Oversee Tool Room activities for the creation, maintenance, and modification of production tools, dies, and fixtures to support high-quality, reliable manufacturing.
- Oversee Mechanical Design work to devise, develop, and modify designs that meet manufacturing, engineering, and customer requirements.
- Oversee Tool & Gage functions ensuring calibration, instrumentation, and gage management meet all regulatory, compliance, and quality standards.
- Define, control, and improve production processes, including tooling and equipment; validate design specifications and shop-floor application of new products, tools, fixtures, and equipment in partnership with Manufacturing Engineering.
- Apply technical expertise and lean methodologies to analyze problems, propose solutions beyond standard parameters, and drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, production, and other site teams, using a strong understanding of key business drivers and team integration to make sound, data-driven decisions.
- Manage departmental budgets and coordinate third-party contractors supporting instrumentation, calibration, and environmental controls.
- Bachelor's Degree accredited college or university (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in Manufacturing & Production experience) Minimum of 3 years ofManufacturing & Production experience
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across all levels and maintain transparency and candor.
- Analytical, critical thinker who challenges existing processes and drives structured problem solving and continuous improvement.
- Ability to prioritize and multitask, managing multiple commitments and initiatives effectively.
- Strong machining and manufacturing background, with experience in tooling, fixtures, and precision environments.
- Ability to document, plan, and execute programs and initiatives for the Tool Room, Mechanical Design, and Tool & Gage teams.
- Experience with STAS (Clarity) or similar systems preferred; familiarity with lean tools and concepts is a plus.
