Purpose of Role
The purpose of this role is to oversee and manage the work of the processing function, focusing on improving cycle efficiency while balancing cost savings and efficiency drivers to maximize profitability and meet customer expectations. This role is also accountable for leading a team of process engineers and/or process technicians.
Areas of Accountabilities
- Establish and maintain a documented standard process program for machine and robot setups; manage deviations from the standard process. Ensure balance of cycle efficiency, regrind usage, and asset reliability in all machine setups.
- Create recipes that optimize co-injection and regrind usage; work with materials team on optimizing these metrics.
- Oversee startup of equipment and process changes that occur to the equipment.
- Collaborate directly with materials team to meet and improve upon alternative materials usage. Maximize regrind use without affecting quality.
- Document root cause analysis of process upsets. Collaborate with other departments to identify, document, and troubleshoot machine and mold opportunities that contribute to process upsets and reactive downtime. Create interim processing plans to overcome challenges as needed.
- Provide technical support for efficient troubleshooting / problem solving activities to maximize efficiencies and limit downtime; communicate troubleshooting guidance and learnings to all shifts.
- Verify daily that machine processes are yielding quality products per our quality standards.
- Lead and guide molding trials of new materials to validate procedures and processes.
- Provide training opportunities to improve technical skillset of team members.
- Manage team of processing engineers and/or technicians.
- Ensure JHA is documented for all non-standard product changeovers.
- Collaborate with National Process Manager to develop processes and implement best practices; serve as point of contact to support national requirements.
- Conduct process studies to identify how each process aspect impacts part quality.
- Identify improvements to mold, machines and EOATs to increase cycle times while maintaining priority focus on safety.
- Minimum of 5 years injection molding process experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of robot startup experience.
- Experience with cobots and automation workcells a plus.
- Formal RJG injection molding experience a plus.
- Ability to setup mold process for 1000T-4000T IMM.
- Ability to optimize mold process for 1000T-4000T IMM for optimum cycle time/efficiency
- Experience with processing HDPE and PP resins.
- Krauss Maffei IMM experience a plus.
- Sepro and Yaskawa 6 axis robot experience a plus.
- Technical aptitude - basic understanding of (or ability to quickly learn) mechanical systems, tooling, & plastic manufacturing processes.
- Strong problem solving abilities. Experience in A3 problem solving method a plus.
- Ability to work well with different production groups and build strong relationships.
- Microsoft Office Suite experience. Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
