Generate and execute novel scientific research or development that impacts safety evaluation for programs across therapeutic areas within preclinical safety. Design new scientific proposals and lead those efforts. Investigate, identify, develop, and optimize new methods and techniques. Act as a lead scientist in his/her area of expertise and critically evaluate relevant scientific advances and integrate this knowledge to drive scientific progress for programs.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine and exploratory molecular pathology endpoints on tissues, cells, and other matrices (such as organ-on-chip) including but not limited to IHC, ISH, laser-capture microdissection, target expression profiling, off-target binding assessments, immunofluorescence (including multiplexing), and electron microscopy.
- Support development and deployment of digital pathology tools to support rapid pathologic evaluation of exploratory studies.
- Demonstrate the ability to identify and resolve key project hurdles and assumptions by effectively utilizing available information and technical expertise.
- Proactively seek out new information in the literature and incorporate this into individual project(s) as well as the overall safety assessment strategy.
- Seize opportunities to pursue project-relevant methods and techniques that are in line with the group’s strategy.
- Maintain a high level of productivity in the lab.
- May mentor/supervise a team of one or more and evaluate the performance of those individuals; accountable for the effective performance of the team/individuals.
- Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, controlled drug and radioactive compounds.
- Collaborate effectively with other teams to identify areas of scientific advancement and efficiency.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and extensive, typically 14 years of experience, Master’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 12 years of experience, PhD and typically 6 years of experience.
- Demonstrate ability to function independently, generating original technical ideas and research or development strategies
- Possess thorough theoretical and practical understanding of own scientific discipline.
- Effective writer and communicator of research. Demonstrated scientific communication and presentation skills.
- People leadership and management experience preferred.
